A Great Album From The 90's You Peeps Probably Missed So i recently discovered Soup by Blind Melon, i loved the debut album & of course this album doesn't have the infamous Bee Girl & Shannon cut his hair.
This album is a dark letter in an addicts life, Shannon Hoon who came to the scene in the early 90's as a friend of Axl Rose & also doing background vocals on the Use Your Illusion Albums. Was going through a HUGE drug addiction at the time, and died only 2 months after the albums release.
The song 2X4 is about Shannons drug detox, New Life deals with him hoping the birth of his daughter will turn his life around, Toes Across The Floor is a talking of being strung out & lifeless with nobody able to help cause you can't help yourself.
Other songs include songs about dealing with suicide, a country western track talking from the point of view from infamous serial killer Ed Gein & the final track Lemonade has a hidden 30 second bit where the band does a brief cover of Hello Goodbye.
This album is a great album showing the mind of an addict & his last wills to the music he is trying to make. It's almost like the raw emoton on Nirvanas Unplugged album where Kobain sings the lyrics soft & full of pain, and his infamous death happened week's after.
Check this album out, i don't think you will be dissapointed.
Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Heh, one of these days I'm going to try to give this album another chance but there's just so much stuff out there to listen to. I need to win the lottery, quit my crappy job and spend all day listening to cd's.
Shoot, I have their rarities collection (Nico) and I don't think that I have heard it more than three times. | |
