Natina Reed was struck and killed on Friday night around 10:20PM in the Greater Atlanta area. She was hit by a red Honda Accord and it was the driver that called police. CPR was performed and she was pronounced dead at the hospital in Gwinnett County. According to police, it is unclear whether she walking down Lawrenceville Highway or crossing the road when struck, The driver has not been charged as it appears it was an accident according to police.

Ms. Reed, the lead singer of the all girl group Blaque that was discovered by the late Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes of TLC is survived by a 10 year old son that she had with ex-beau rapper Kurupt.

Blaque's biggest hit was "808".

What is so eerie she died the same way as her best bud LeftEye did. Didn't know she had a child by Kurupt. Knew they dated though......

Report: Natina Reed’s Death Not from Hit and Run Driver

Police seek help investig...’s death

Gwinnett County police would like to speak with anyone who knows how R&B singer Natina Reed ended up on a dark stretch of highway before she was struck and killed by a passing motor vehicle late Friday night. Reed was 32.

Police are awaiting the results of toxicology reports to determine if Reed was impaired by alcohol or drugs as she walked along well-travelled Lawrenceville highway. Ironically, Reed may have been on foot because her driver’s license was revoked following recent DUI convictions.

Gwinnett police received a call around 10:30 p.m. Friday that a woman had been struck by a red Honda Accord on Lawrenceville Highway (U.S. 29) near Hamilton Road, just north of Lilburn, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Early reports suggested that the former Blaque group member was the unfortunate victim of a hit-and-run as she walked home from a store. But those reports were proven false by police who say the driver and his passenger stopped, called 911 to report the accident and rendered aid to Reed as her broken body lay in the roadway. Reed was later pronounced dead at Gwinnett Medical Center.

Police also doubt the theory that Reed was returning home from a store. “It’s kind of a dark lit area,” police spokesman Sgt. Rich Long told the AJC. “There is not really anything in that area that’s open at that time of night, that would be any kind of a draw to a person up there,” he said.

Police theorize that Reed may have been dropped off by someone in the area near where she was struck.

“Anyone who might have information about anything that could help us determine why she was there, anything to help us understand how this came together,” said police spokesman Sgt. Rich Long, who added: “As of right now, it does not appear that the driver has any fault in this event.”

Reed had a history of alcohol and substance abuse dating back to her days as a member of the popular R&B group Blaque. Reed was arrested in DeKalb County on April 13 and charged with violating the open container laws and disorderly conduct. She was released the next day on a $420 bond.

She was arrested again on June 29, 2011 in Dunwoody, a suburb West of Atlanta. She was charged with DUI and driving with a revoked license and released two days later on $2,230 bond.

Reed’s former band members expressed their sorrow on Twitter.com and Facebook Saturday.

Shamari Fears-DeVoe (pictured center), who is married to Ronald DeVoe of New Edition, tweeted, “My world as I know it has forever changed. Until we meet again, may you find comfort in the arms of an angel. I love you Natina.”

And band member Brandi Williams (pictured right) tweeted, “Last night the world was changed forever, life will never be the same….she was my sister.”

Reed was a cousin of the late TLC singer Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, who also died in a car accident in Honduras on April 25, 2002 at age 30. Reed is survived by a 10-year-old son, Tren Brown, by her former husband, rapper Kurrupt.

Atlanta R&B singer Natina Reed was living at an extended stay motel about 12 miles from where she was killed by a car late Friday night, according to a police incident report.

Gwinnett County authorities are still seeking information to help explain the accidental death of Reed, 32, a popular member of the late 1990s female group Blaque, who was struck and killed late Friday while standing in a roadway just north of Lilburn. The incident report listed her address as 7065 Jimmy Carter Blvd., the address of StudioPlus Atlanta Peachtree Corners extended stay motel in Norcross.

Meanwhile, Reed’s family is planning a 1 p.m. press conference at the SunTrust Building in Atlanta to discuss the case, according to attorney Christopher Chestnut’s office.

R&B singer Natina Reed’s troubled life ended in tragedy when she was struck and killed by a motorist as she walked along a dark stretch of highway in Decatur late Friday.

The singer was living at a seedy, rundown extended stay motel about 12 miles from where she was killed, according to a police incident report obtained by The Atlanta Journal Constitution.

The police report listed Reed’s address as 7065 Jimmy Carter Blvd., the address of an extended stay motel in Norcross. Reed was killed at the intersection of Lawrenceville Highway (U.S. 29) near Hamilton Road, just north of Lilburn.

Police theorize that Reed may have been dropped off by someone in the area near where she was struck.

“Anyone who might have information about anything that could help us determine why she was there, anything to help us understand how this came together,” said police spokesman Sgt. Rich Long, who added: “As of right now, it does not appear that the driver has any fault in this event.”

Reed had a history of alcohol and substance abuse dating back to her days as a member of the popular R&B group Blaque. Reed had multiple DUI charges on her arrest record.

Reed’s father, Paul Reed, said she was on her cell phone when she was struck from behind by a car. “She was walking across the street on the phone, and the next thing she’s on the floor.”

Blaque member Shamari Fears-DeVoe (pictured above left), who is married to Ronald DeVoe of New Edition, tweeted, “My world as I know it has forever changed. Until we meet again, may you find comfort in the arms of an angel. I love you Natina.”

Shamari told Channel 2 Action News that she spoke with Reed by phone “exactly 2 hours” before she died. The women were reportedly planning a Blaque reunion and a reality TV show.

R&B singer Natina Reed’s parents voiced their frustration with the Gwinnett police investigation into Reed’s death during a midday press conference in downtown Atlanta on Thursday.

“We are hurt and distraught about the untimely death of our daughter Natina,” said Reed’s mother, Tamara Goodridge, during a 1 p.m. press conference. “We have been asking for the preliminary report from police. Why did it take so long for them to give it to us?,” she asked.

According to The Atlanta Journal Constitution, the police report was made public on Wednesday — 3 days after Reed was struck and killed on a dark stretch of highway late Friday.

Gwinnett Police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter told the AJC his office had no record of anyone requesting the police report — other than the media.

But Mrs. Goodrich denies the cop’s version of events. She also disputed the police report’s address for Reed — a motel where police say Reed was living.

“It’s not true,” Goodridge said. “She was in transition, about to move to a new home.”

The driver of the red Honda that hit Reed stopped and called 911 to report the accident. No charges are pending against the driver.

There are unconfirmed rumors that Reed was kicked out of a car following a drunken argument with the driver. She was 12 miles from her last known address when she was killed.

Police are awaiting toxicology reports to determine if Reed was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Reed’s parents and police want to speak with anyone who knows Reed’s whereabouts in the hours before she was killed.

Reed, a member of the popular 1990s R&B group Blaque, planned a reunion with group members Brandi Williams and Shamari Fears-DeVoe, pictured above with Reed’s 10-year-old son Tren Brown on Oct. 29. Fears-DeVoe says there was also a reality TV show in the works.
