Good question but here's my question; Why interpret?

It's just giving Frank WAY too much attention, when he should be concentrating on the upcoming Grammys, studying film of some great performers so he can bring up his stage game, and staying the F!ck off twitter/tumblr whatever.

And Frank's not responsible for this, is that what you're saying? lol

I guess my point is until he makes clear what he's quitting, we should ask, "hmmm, quitting what?" Then collectively rolleyes

He ain't making shit clear. He didn't make his sexuality "clear", what makes anyone think he's gonna make something as simple as a "quitting statement" clear? lol

Remember the days when Prince first came out and he was jerking around Cynthia Horner at "Right On" magazine and he'd give this colorful backstory and mythology to the press?

I miss those days.

But are their similarities?

Nah because Prince admittedly did that on purpose to get people talking. Frank's doing it at a time when sexuality has become a much broader topic and an almost forcible acceptance. When Prince was doing it, he knew it would generate controversy. David Bowie was the same thing lol but they were probably fucking with people. Frank Ocean is borderline serious/not serious so no he don't compare. Plus half the country think he's gay already lmao

Why is Jack White considered a dark horse? From what I heard, he should be a shoo-in. neutral

it really depends on the "fickle" grammy voters and what they push forward, obviously his label will feel its worthy, i think he'll be nominated mostly because he has become the 'radiohead" of Album nods now, radiohead got the "token" nod many times, the grammy cant make up its mind what it wants to be, does it want to be commercial, and focus on the big sellers, which it has gotten many complaints years ago when Bob Dylan and Springsteen were nominated and the grammys were labeled the "Grannys", but to me there is SUCH a huge dis-connection between SALES of singles, who sells albums, who is just a media star and who is still making strong music and the Grammys try to CATER rather than just accepting that they shouldnt be thinking what will be a ratings and sales boost and just follow what you felt was the best album.

With that said i pretty much disagree with that whole list though you will probably see Dylan i doubt Springsteen and i doubt John Mayer too, maybe in the Rock field. Jack white most likely, norah jones i feel should be right in there cause it was one of the best albums and her at her best, but again depends on the Grammys mood.

They've always been a popularity contest especially in the last decade.

true but reach back and the times of the popular album was the best album too or at least worthy of consideration. I mean if the Joshua Tree and Sign o the times came out now, neither would be big sellers and neither would be considered.

They actually have some kind of Blue Ribbon Panel now that actually selects the more interesting picks in the top catagories, hence all those Radiohead nominations lately.

This year I can see that panel picking Jack White or Norah Jones. Or maybe Norah, being a Grammy darling in the past, has reached a sort of "veteran" status with them and they'll at least look at her work for consideration.

Dylan or Springsteen could benefit from the veteran vote.

They'd probably split the veteran vote, give it to Dylan and snub Springsteen lol

I bought Miguel's album and was happy I did so. I heard snippets of Frank's album and afterwards I was like, umm no thanks. Couldn't get into it, even with everyone hyping him up, I still wasn't impressed. As for his cryptic comment that everyone is trying to figure out, why bother?

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Well I'm not surprised that Miguel has a better album than Frank.

If you had to argue Frank is bogged down by a strong hip hop influence.

Miguel has a strong R&B bent.

Now this may cuase problems but a strong R&B album is gonna be better then a hip-hop influnced R&B album.

Did Frank Ocean QUIT The Music Industry?

Frank Ocean mysteriously posted a vague message leading some folks to believe he may be quitting music. Find out what he said inside and get the details on Sway's interview with President Obama about music and its impact on politics.

Frank Ocean posted a very vague message on his Tumblr saying,

This post has led some to believe he may be leaving music.....or seeking attention. Earlier, he said that quitting is the new black...so maybe he is following a trend.

It's likely just another rant (maybe someone upset him) as he has also posted about how much fun he is having recording in Hawaii this week.

Prince Sigh.....

I visited his Tumblr a few times during the frenzy and it was always this nonsensical, scattershot piffle.

He always seemed aloof to me but maybe he's already fed up with the industry (I coulda told him).
