D'Angelo/ Roots articles in Uptown Mag

Anybody gotta link for the D'Angleo and Roots article in "Uptown" magazine. Miles Marshall Lewis who did the great "Madhouse" article for waxpoetics did the D'angelo article. In the Root's article ?uestlove is quoted as saying "The whole Philly Neo-Soul thing started in my living room!"

D'Angelo's much-heralded comeback project is taking longer to reach completion than we had anticipated. Release it already or go back to obscurity.

What is the point of coming back? If you just record what you love to do, marketplace is not going to accept a 180 of a D'Angelo sound. Maybe he should just release it on Bandcamp. cool

I see your point. However, its not about the commercial aspect with him. It will cater to the REAL fans because at this point whether he releases an album or not its going to be considered a failure commercially compared to his most commercial period in the 90s.

The thing is, he could release anything on itunes if he wanted to. He tours and sits there w/ his guitar & instruments recording songs in secrecy. I'm not mad at him for not giving us a followup. Shuggie Otis, anyone? He still won't press the button & let that project see the daylight. I just think

The followup will sell but will it sell to reach expectations of a major? If this album is as strange as they say it is, tough sale. I really can't believe it has been 12 years, I would've thought 5 year wait again. I bet you his management is pissed, that magazine article & no album for the end of the year. Who knows, but this is the roll of dice w/ music geniuses. They aren't here to cater to our liking. Case in point, Prince... he doesn't even want to release music anymore really.

Well I am just glad he is back and seems to be on the right track in life because he was going through a rough time.

Also, people act like he has not been promoting NO NEW MUSIC whatsoever if you pay attention to his concert footages he is promoting new music in conjunction with old music. So while yes we want an album, its not like he hasnt promoted and given his fans NO new material at all since January.
