I would say...the entire Van Halen I record. Excluding Eruption/You Really Got Me, which I think have been played to death. But the rest of the record lays it wide open that Eddie Van Halen is not simply just a shred master, but a musical genius. I've listened to it hundreds of times and I can't say there's a single misplaced note on the record. It's perfect.

Yep..Eddie has lots of great phrasing and note choice, which I don't think ever received as much attention as his tapping and other quirky noises and techniques.

When I was younger, I didn't appreciate that either... I was waiting for fireworks to happen on each solo and be disappointed when he wouldn't blast out a bunch of notes. Now, I get it!

Empress

I have a concert dvd of Van Halen (can't think of the name right now) and Eddies's guitar solo is out of this world.

The recent solo he did last March in concert was awesome too. He's one of the best.

Among my many favorites because not being a musician or guitarist I can't make an informed opinion:

Ernie Isley -- Who Loves You Better (Isleys)

Jimi Hendrix -- Machine Gun (Fillmore East 1970)

Wendy Melvoin -- Hello 12" (P&TR)

Ray Parker, jr. -- Maybe Your Baby (S. Wonder)

Andy Summers -- Omegaman (The Police)

Jonny Greenwood -- Bodysnatchers (Radiohead)

Elloitt Randall -- Reelin' In The Years (Steely Dan)

Michael Toles/Charles Pitts (don't know which) -- Do Your Thing (Isaac Hayes)

Prince (in chronological order and excluding "hits") -- Why Ya Wanna Treat Me So Bad, Computer Blue, America (video version), ICNTTPOYM (film), Rock Hard In A Funky Place, Joy In Repetition, endorphinmachine, The Rapture, Interactive, While My Guitar Gently Weeps (RRHOF 2004)

I don't know whether Cobain's riffs on "Breed" or Brody Dalle's on Spinerette's "Ghetto Love" classify but I dig them such as they are.

Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

Nice ones listed so Far!

Many of my favorites have already been mentioned, so i'll just throw up a few favorite guitar moments. I'll have to say"favorite", rather than best, 'cause this is just based on the way the solos make me feel, rather than prowess....

Wayne Krantz - One of Two

Allen Hinds -Falling Up (from the 4:00 mark)

Carlos Santana, with Narada Michael Walden -"Awakening" (at the 3:01 mark)

All the solo's I like are very melodic and similar to eachother LOL (and poppy). Also as the poppy, they are all very short. But these are some of my favs, and Iam by no way saying these are the best solo's....

Jacksons "Wait" (Steve Lukather)

Chicago "what does it take" (Michael Landau)

Bad English "when I see you smile" (Neil Schon)

Trevor Rabin "Something to hold on to" (Trevor Rabin)

Planet 3 "Welcome to love" (Jay Graydon)

Troop "Spread my wings" (Thomas Organ)

Bill Champlin "Something to believe in" (John McCurry)

Prince "Batdance" (Prince)

Junichi Kawauchi "Waiting game" (Robben Ford)

Kenny Loggins "back to avalon" (Dan Huff)

Eric Clapton "Grand Illusion" (Eric Clapton)

Phil Christian "Facing the fire" (Paul Warren)

Jack Wagner "Easy way out (Michael Landau-this solo is only about 6 seconds LOL)

Dire Straits "Sultans of swing" (Live version from "Alchemy" album) (Mark Knopfler)

Paul Janz "Every little tear" (Tim McKenzie)

Pia Zadora "Heartbeat of love" (credits don't state exactly who did what on which track, so could be Vernon "ice" Black, Corrado Rustici or Chris Camozzi?)

June Pointer "Parlez Moi D'amour (let's talk about love)" (Corrado Rustici)

Mike Oldfiend "Moonlight shadow" (Mike Oldfield)

Eric Martin "One way out" (credits dont state but like above it's probably Dan Huff or someone like that)

Billy newton Davis "Perfect Crime" (Martin Briley)

Billy Ocean "Gun for hire" (no credits)

Good one on "Fishnet". Jellybean often overshadowed and overlooked by Jesse Johnson. Glad someone else notices him LOL. If you havn't already, credits don't state, but Iam sure Jellybean is on Patti Labelle's "Just the facts". It sure sounds like his squeely guitar LOL...

Check around 1:50 mark. Rememeber its a Jam/Lewis track aswell so...

Havn't checked out that Chuckii track in a while. Must hear it again....
