I pretty much prefer Kool and the Gang

yeah, and the Village Poeple are even better than BOTH!

lawd... you probably prefer Shakin' Stevens over Elvis? whateva dude....

and for the record: Kool & the Gang are top notch and of course highly essential, their complete discography should not be missing in ANY serious record collection

but EWF they are not. not by a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong shot.

Has anyone tried unplugging the United States and plugging it back in?

I think one of the keys to EWF's success is that Maurice had a vision, which he really tried to always follow, despite of course, being influenced by what he heard, he did not copy other popular artists of his time by putting his and Phil's voice on top of tracks that could have come from anyone else.....

He crafted a unique amalgam of many genres, took the time to perfect his craft thru each succeeding EWF album from the early 70s, and at the point when they really struck it big, there was no doubt you could tell an EWF song when you heard it because of their signatures which were distinctly unique....

When PFunk outshone them on stage at a concert, he marched the guys back into the studio to practice.........I think that sort of mentality in being proud of what you have created, never thinking that you cannot improve, creating the best visual and aural experience possible, these are things that make EWF great.

Listening to "I Am" right now--what great music! Nostalgia probably plays a huge part in this being my favorite EW&F album--that was the year I graduated high school damn! (now, I'm giving my age away! LOL)--and what a great year of music it was! And this was my favorite album of that year... Great times! biggrin

It's my favorite EW&F album, too lol it's a non-stop party filled with infectious grooves and harmonies."In The Stone" is an amazing opener! There were four hit singles from this album, but even the remaining tracks could have been singles,as well."You And I" is one of their finest slow grooves.

same here lol I love the exotic, mesmerizing rhythms on this album."Fantasy" is such an uplifting tune that makes you feel as if you're floating on a cloud."Runnin" has that same effect. There's pleny of solid funk here ("Serpentine Fire","Jupiter") and several outstanding slow grooves that rank among their best: "Love's Holiday" and "Be Ever Wonderful".

I can see why many fans say this is their favorite EW&F album.

Be Ever Wonderful is such a Tour De Force of music and vocals....the wordless harmonizing that ends the songs is just plain classic.....

AllnAll has been my favorite album probably because of the great production work and the fact that to my ears there is no filler on this album.....Fantasy has such an epic beginning, the levels of percussion and strings and everything else that Maurice included is truly monumental.

However, I can second the fact that I Am is absolutely great....There is no wonder why so many college bands include In the Stone, Rock That in their performances......

As a classic EWF album, it is probably critically underrated simply because it includes Boogie Wonderland...

yeah, when they did "Boogie Wonderland",alot of people thought they were selling out and jumping on the disco bandwagon. The song is undeniably disco, but it's good disco. It has stood the test of time as one of their most infectious hits and a concert favorite.

You are right about BW...the key thing is to listen to the 12 inch instrumental version, and you really get to hear the dense music and orchestral approach to the song...

the interesting fact is that if you really pay attention to the lyrics, which are difficult to discern when you listen to the song, you will realize that they actually tell a story......

not my favorite EWF song, to be honest, but as you say, as disco music goes, one of those songs that has really withstood the test of time...
