Yeah. She said it was freeing not having the deadlines and pressure a label can put on you. I think that she will ultimately sign with some label, if she hasn't already.

The music industry is in such a bad state, in order for Janet to be really into singing again, she would have To be given full artistic freedom, and that won't happen unless she is independent artist from an label.

I believe there are a few options that are happening now: I think she's recording an album first (without the label influence and demands) and then plan to shop it around to the highest bidder for backing. Maybe she already has a deal but haven't gone public with it yet and will announce it all at one time. Or the least likely option, the fully independent route. I'd be surprised if this project is solely independent from a major. I would applaud her for it but I'd be surprised.

I recall reading RUMORS that Universal Music Group has already signed her around the time her "Number Ones" compilation came out. Hence, them promoting the CD and the "Up Close and Personal Tour."

I guess we'll find out sooner or later.
