2013 Image Awards Music Noms

December 12, 2012

Link

Nominations for this year's NAACP Image Awards have been announced, and Alicia Keys and Elle Varner are nominated in the most music categories, with three nods each.

Technically, KEM has the most music nominations, with four nods. Three of those noms, however, are in the Outstanding Song category.

His songs, "Be Mine for Christmas" and "Glorify the King," from his What Christmas Means album are up for awards, and "You're on My Mind" from his Intimacy album is also nominated. KEM's "You're on My Mind" visual is also up for Outstanding Music Video.

Alicia's Girl on Fire release and Elle's Perfectly Imperfect debut are up for Outstanding Album.

That category also includes Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You: The Best of Whitney Houston album, Michael Jackson's Bad, 25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition and the original soundtrack for On the Shoulders of Giants, featuring Chuck D, Will.i.am, Herbie Hancock and Nikki Yannofsky, and more.

Alicia and Elle are also up for Outstanding Female Artist, along with Estelle, Missy Elliott and Tamela Mann. Alicia's "Girl on Fire" visual is also up for Outstanding Music Video. Elle is up for Outstanding New Artist, as are Lianne La Havas, Gary Clark Jr., Melanie Amaro and the OMG Girlz.

The Outstanding Male Artist category includes Bruno Mars, Lupe Fiasco, Trey Songz, Usher and Miguel.

The NAACP Image Awards shine a spotlight on the accomplishments of people of color in the fields of television, music, literature and film.

Winners will be announced during a two-hour event, airing live Friday, February 1 on NBC.

What? The NAACP couldn't give Frank Ocean even one nod? But they nominate a reissue and a Best Of package in the Best Album category??? Why am I not surprised?disbelief Have they ever nominated any man in any category who was openly gay or bisexual?

Bruno or Miguel should win. I love Usher but he's not the winner for this year lol. And Yeah a little surprised Frank isn't nominated. Maybe they don't "get" him who knows lol

They don't seem to get a lot of people. Explains why Kem got three nods in the same category! lol

I don't think it's about hype. I'm not a Frank Ocean fan at all. I took a lot of heat on here by saying I didn't care for his music. But they are going to ignore him and give Kem two nods for a couple of Christmas tunes that just came out like a few weeks ago and nominate recycled material from Micheal and Nippy? He couldn't even get a nod for Best New Artist? I mean, I've never heard of any of the nominees in that category. I think the NAACP sent a clear message to Frank - If you are going to tallk about loving another man, then don't expect to be recognized or acknowleged by us.

Is the NAACP has religious members on their board for this? I was not just talking about Frank I was talking about other nominees they didnt nominate ya know the usual suspects Rihanna, Beyonce, Nikki, Chris etc

I never was a Frank Ocean fan either (although I do support his nominations and I hope he wins them) but I do see your point. I think he deserved some nods. If NAACP excluded him because of his sexual orientation this proves even more why these awards are full of politics but then again Frank was overhyped anyway so its kinda neutral for me.

MJ album didnt HAVE to be nominated but I find those unreleased demos more entertaining than majority of Channel Orange but hey thats me lol

I dont agree with these nominations but I rather these people than Beyonce, Chris Brown, Rihanna, and company who constantly get rewarded for trash music. NAACP aint kissing ass and even if their list is biased their not choosing the easy route will nominating who everyone thinks or who is popular. I am glad they have some artists a chance.

These artists in these categories besides the album ones exactly deserve their nominations.

The only people butt hurt are the ones who listen to the shitty music. These things have no meaning either way

NAACP were kissing ass they could have easily nominated Beyonce or Rihanna in that Female R&B category. They could have easily nominated Chris Brown or Usher in the male R&B category. They DIDNT STFU and be happy that these overrated pop tarts are not in R&B categories where they should not be fore a change.

I am also glad Lupe Fiasco got some love

Wing it. It's like they hear something that stimulates them so much they say "fuck everything, let's just nominate them because I like them." (That's how they do it with most industry awards anyways, and yes the NAACP is an industry too) lol Like I said, why the hell does Kem have three nods in the same category? biggrin Stimulation works with whoever's on that board. nod

Also, who in the hell is OMG Girlz? They're just as bad as BET. The NAACP still kissed ass since I don't see how they would nominate Cee-Lo's video for that song. I'm sure they could've nominated Frank Ocean but chose not to or hell, the Weeknd. But they didn't so whatever.

lol Either Kem is the second coming of Marvin Gaye or something and I'm just missing his phenomenon or they just missed an opportunity to acknowledge some other artists.
