Yeah, great track and a brave choice for lead single considering how many other obvious hits were on that album.

A shame that they've never deemed it worthy of a place on a 'Best Of'.

i always thought that artists leave some hits off their best of packages to encourage

people to buy the actual album the song was on.

if you'd put all of the singles from "automatic" on a best of, there wouldn't be a real

reason for a casual listener to buy that album.

now. not everyone can afford to do these kind of things. especially not in a world

where it became common practice to release a 'best of' or 'greatest hits' when you

only had 4 singles in the charts.

you'd need to fluff that shit out with whatever you could scrape from the barrell.

"oh but this album track was an obscure promo in taiwan, it deserves a place on our

greatest hits man!"

falloff

rem had more than enough hits by the time of their first 'best of', to comfortably

omit a few songs. or maybe i'm just thinking this way because personally i feel it

is such a good album that it should be experienced as a whole and not just as it's

singles.

I hear ya, but the fact that the same four songs from Automatic For The People were on two different Best Of albums is a drag.

they have too many best of albums anyway, don't they. or was that another group?

i never keep track of those kind of releases. except for the one from rem that had

lots and lots of stuff on there, including an outtake from "monster".

great, now i'm gonna have an rem month again, i can just feel it lol

I've had an R.E.M. quarter recently. Took the leap in May and been listening to all the album cuts from Mumur to Adventures....been really appreciating Monster lately too. How did Strange Currencies not become a hit?

Well, the video used to be on mtv quite often iirc. Monster is my favorite
rem album. It's got that unique sound on the whole album like it's from an
other world all on it's own. Similar to Achtung Baby, Choirgirl Hotel, Parade
and a couple more. Love it start to finish. Great, great album.

yeah I would put the album in R.E.M.'s top 3. Let Me In is a powerful song, never heard anything like it. It seems like the harder edge of Monster spilled over in to New Adventures which I also like.

i've been listening to "hope" a lot the last year. i just keep going back to it.

and when i play it, i always play it at least 5 times.

their back catalogue is so deep, there's so much to rediscover each time.

Great track! & video smile

Automatic was a big album.. shame this track did not get much more exposure.

Nightswimming is another underrated single.

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener
