Would you call Cher a great singer or a "unique" one? I say she is more unique-I don't think she is a "singer" per se "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Cher never was a real vocalist and I don't think that she ever pretended to be one. She made the most of her limited talents and did very well with them. I think it was sad when she appeared on Oprah a few years ago and stated, very frankly, that she can't stand growing old--that, in contrast to Tina Turner, who Cher was touring with at the time, and who stated that she likes her age and never felt better about her life... Go, Tina! And she is older than Cher. I don't really get why Cher hates getting old if she is in good shape... Why not be like Tina....?!!

I have been a huge fan of Cher's for 40 years. I love her, but IMHO - her voice sucks.
I would much rather see her act, than sing. When she was younger, I could tolerate her voice, but not for the past 15 years or so.
She needs to get back to acting and stop all the damn comeback shows.

Her voice is an "acquired taste"...you either love it or hate it

I agree.... I would say she has a unique voice. I grew up on Cher's Believe album which wasnt a bad album at all

I LOVE her voice. It has a unique tone and she is soulful. Most people wouldn't consider her a great singer though.
I loved her performance of All In Love Is Fair by Stevie. You would probably hate it! "Keep in mind that I'm an artist...and I'm sensitive about my shit."--E. Badu

I'm a big Cher fan (Expecially her 1987-2001 years). Along with Celine Dion, Cher was the artist I grew up listening to the most when I was little. I've always loved her voice, it's very unique and soulful. Her voice makes feel what she's saying in ways very few singers have. She uses what she has very very well.

Head of the nail. She has a super richness to her voice. I think it can be more evident with some of her earlier material. (No, not the stuff from the 80s.) But you know, she was also a really really great and under rated actor.

I'd say that she's a horrible singer. الحيوان النادلة ((((|̲̅̅●̲̅̅|̲̅̅=̲̅̅|̲̅̅●̲̅̅|)))) ...AND THAT'S THE WAY THE "TITTY" MILKS IT!

I don't think she was under-rated; Cher won an Oscar for Moonstruck. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

CHer and Britney remind me of each other vocally, they sound very very distinct, they lack range but no one else sound like them. take that as u like

Don't come at me for the Britney comparasion! They both great dance divas.

Neither. | |

they are what they are, Im not big on commercial dance artists like Her or Britney but voice wise they are 'unique' I prefer Janet when it comes to commercial dance artists

Def unique. Wasn't crazy about her voice till I heard "gypsies, tramps & thieves". I like her early/mid 70s material best.

Cher is a good (not great) vocalist that just fits well on most tracks. Which tracks exactly depends on your favorite Cher-era.

She is not the greatest singer, but there isn't a song she's afraid to tackle. I think it's her commitment to the material that carries the day, that and her larger than life attitude. I was watching her old variety show, and she sang whatever song she damn wanted. "So fierce U look 2night, the brightest star pales 2 Ur sex..."

I love that song so much. I don't like much else to be honest.

She's not an "album" artist at all. If you could get your hands on a compilation that covers her early/mid 70s singles, I think you might like what you hear.

Unique, not great. She can carry a tune though and I like her voice on some songs
