Rihanna's New Album, Unapologetic

October 11, 2012

Link

Less than a year after releasing Talk That Talk, Rihanna is back with her seventh album in seven years, Unapologetic.

She took to Twitter on Thursday to reveal the cover art, on which she strips down with nothing but black and white words scrawled across her naked body. A tattoo of the Egyptian goddess Isis, which she dedicated to her late grandmother, can also be seen.

“Find the #ALBUMTITLE in #allBLACKeverything on the #COVER,” she told her Navy.

The first single “Diamonds” currently occupies the No. 18 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, while the album is expected to feature contributions from Stargate and Ne-Yo, who penned two songs.

RiRi, who leads the nominations at the American Music Awards, will kick off her Diamonds World Tour in March 2013.

Unapologetic is set for release on November 20, 2012.

Her vocal on Diamonds has got to be her worst vocal ever! She's never impressed me with any of her vocals but this is total shit. Bored, lifeless, bland singing.

The thing is that She isnt the one churning them out, her writers and producers etc..are, also, though she is doing 1 a year she has shown very very little growth between records, and NO ONE on this earth can compare her 1 album a year to say Prince, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, etc...those cats were all putting out different records, Rihanna has almost no growth and seriously i cant tell the difference between albums or tell u what single is from what.

The new Rihanna is already available for purchase on iTunes, but you can't buy the album in it's entirety in one purchase - you have to d/load each individual track at $1.29.

Ripoff.

But so far, i'm liking it.

The irony of this album title is that it totally fits her. Not a visible sign of any talent but she's very unapologetic about the fact that she's a talentless hack who always looks out of place on stage. Why does this chick always seem so "basic" on stage. And she's been at this for years now? Wake me when this is over...

Here's the thing: on the surface, it sounded like so much fun.

Seven glamorous cities (or, okay — six and Toronto) enjoying a private plane, intimate performances, free hotels and star-studded after parties with Rihanna.

Maybe, MAYBE I idly entertained thoughts of Rihanna and me, walking arm and arm into one of those cheap nail salons. We'd wear huge-logo sunglasses and read about her in foot-bath-splashed US magazines, still so giddy from brunch that I tell that dude-with-the-funny-balls-story that even the nail technicians laugh softly while gently removing her previous Swarovski gel pedi.

But after that first, coruscating appearance, Rihanna was gone. And I do mean gone.

I hesitate to say that she looked visibly drunk or generally "on some of the hard shit" during her performances, so let me just say that we came to expect a three hour delay before she went on every night.

She barely does any of her own singing, which isn't a huge pearl-clutcher, but at least Britney danced a little. For Rihanna, just licking her lips during a song constitutes a taxing, elaborate physical routine that deserves a couple of mid-performance tequila shots.

The shows are hilariously rote. "What the fuck is up, Mexico City?" "What the fuck is up, Toronto?" "What the fuck is up, Paris?" "What the fuck is up, [Insert Epcot Center City Here]?" followed by a tight sixty minutes of lip synching and lethargic thigh-slapping.

At least Johnny Cash did his own singing, and when he was too drunk to do that, occasionally collapsed into the footlights to give everybody a little thrill.

The parts we love the best are when she "ad libs," gives a "special fan" an HTC phone (hahahahhahahahah), or pretends like she "just heard" someone request "What's My Name?", which she somehow sings while holding the mic at her crotch, air-chewing invisible Big League Chew and staring into the wings.
