Has anyone picked up the

Kraftwerk: The Catalogue Box Set?

I was wondering if the remasters were worth re-buying?

I've heard that the albums in the box set were remixed & remastered and the mixes are different from the original releases. Similar to the Genesis box sets from 2007-2008, which were also remixed.

I bought the Computer World and Electric Cafe (given it's original title "Techno Pop") remasters out of curiosity.

As mentioned by MickeyD, some of the tracks are different to the originals. On CW, the mixes are slightly different to that of the original album, but if you are a casual Kraftwerk listener, then you will barely notice. Some of the tracks are a couple of seconds longer too.

EC or Techno Pop as the remaster is titled is less messed with. My ears only detect the track "Telephone Call" as being a different mix to the original. Personally I prefer the original version, the version on TP is noticeably different.

As for the sound? They sound good on my headphones but sounded a bit boomy through my hi-fi speakers.

Kraftwerk fans wanting straight remasters may feel a little disappointed upon hearing that the mixes are slightly different, but all in all I thought the two I have sounded good. I don't know about the others in the set, but the fact that different mixes were used in the two I bought put me off buying any more.

Nice packaging too.

I have the box set, but I had never heard any of their albums in full before on disc (except for The Mix) so I had nothing to which to compare the remasters. They do sound great to me though. And it's a very nice package.

This package has gotten ridiculously expensive.
