You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

The man knows how to write a song and has had great longevity. You have to give him credit for that.

We won't be saying this about most of the "singers" that are popular today. Hell, most of them don't have a clue how to write a song, let alone sing it lol razz

100% agree! people slight artists that have hits with ballads or fall into that AC category, but lets be real, if artists like Stevie Wonder Paul Simon and many others came out today, they wouldnt be pop artists like they were considering back then, PAUL would be an Alt/Country artist, or Folk, and Stevie Wonder would be considering Neo Soul or some Contemporary Soul etc....and the list goes on and on, Artists like Paul Simon Billy Joel elton john stevie wonder manilow and others were all battling for awards as pop artists back then compare a category of Paul Simon Stevie Wonder and Elton john nominated for Best Pop Artist at the American Music Awards like it was then, and compare that with POP today, and tell me that shit is still on the same level.
