Too hard to choose just one artist.

I would have to have some:

Rolling Stones

Beatles

Dylan

Prince

George Michael

These 5 for sure!

If you pick Billy Preston, then at least you can have the albums of theirs he played on. smile

Not very original but Prince.

He's the only one I can think of who's records and songs are so different from eachother...for every mood there's a different song....rock, jazz, r&b, funk, pop you name it.

It's a toss up.

You get the prize for the most elite/sophisticated taste! wink

Both great musicians, that's for sure.

Thanks. And yes, they are. But I thought about this last night and I'm going

with Mozart. Monk wrote about 60+ songs; Mozart's operas alone, nevermind the

piano concertos, violin concertos, horn concertos, symphonies, octets, quintets,

quartets, piano music, oratorios, etc, are enough to warrant his inclusion on this

shitty, deserted island that somehow has just enough electricity to play music.

Monk is my favorite Jazz composer and pianist; and if the question was "choose

only one album to bring on a deserted island" I would choose Brilliant Corners.

I hope this island has some island hoes on it.

Ok it'seither gonna be Madonna or The System!! There, I said it! cool

Thanks for mentioning The System! They are amazing IMO.

Did you know Madonna and David Frank once shared an appartment en had plans to make some music together? I just heard about that recently...

They System are as close to perfection musically as it gets. They're stuff incorporates rock, new wave, electro, funk & r&b! Love them and can't wait for that new album to drop.

I never knew that about Madge and David Frank. That's really cool but what a shame it never happened.

Probably a classical artist. I'd have lots of time, and probably any one person's voice would drive me nuts after a while. If I chose Beethoven, his discography would include hundreds of versions of different orchestras playing each symphony, each concerto, etc.

It would include vocal music, instrumental music--music that I could take some time to get to know.

If I need a beat, hopefully there are some coconuts around.

Since classical composers like Mozart didn't do any recording, wouldn't you just have cover albums by other people, and not by the actual person? razz So you can have an album by Cecilia Bartoli singing Mozart tunes, but not a "Mozart" album. If that's the case, then you can pick The Beatles and include Beatles tribute albums and acts who remade their songs. Since it's been said Yesterday has been remade over 2000 times, you can have all of those records. lol Unless you're talking about modern composers who lived after recording studios were invented.

Thats the one album of theirs that i actually have to really be in the mood to hear it and then i will still skip tracks. In their recent bio book they are not too fond of the record though they do say that it contains two of their best songs in their catalog, as a whole they werent too happy with the experience, plus it came is they were disbanding and not digging each other. However if you ask Morten "Lifelines" is a "bloated" record, he says "no record should have 14 songs" and that he hated everything that Paul (guitarist/writer? brought to the table and didnt want to sing any of it, though he says as a 9 track album it works, plus he says "Lifelines" the song is one of the best ever, though as he said "its trapped on this record" , Paul states " too many producers on this record"

Well, horses for courses I guess. I love Memorial Beach even if the band themselves aren't fond of it.

I agree about Lifelines though, that album just doesn't hang together very well. And while Paul may not have brought his 'A' game I don't think his songs are too bad, not great but not appalling either.

And let's face it, he'll always be a much better songwriter than Morten. lol

True "Lifelines" though i love that record became the "Paul and Mags" war, and Mags proved better at the craft, but alot of their issues, started here, tension from the previous album, and paul writing almost the whole thing, but all in all despite them really not getting along alot of their career, their battles and differences were thier strongest quality.

That band friction certainly led to some great music over the years. nod

And Mags proved himself a songwriter of worth on both Lifelines and Analogue. Great work indeed.

This is probably my second of two possible choices. The variety and volume, as well as quality and density (ie long term listening value) is nearly unmatched.

The only thing that Miles is missing is vocals! I guess I could sing over it myself. Oh, wait no... Doo Bop!!! smile

I agree. As a previous poster said, with Michael's solo albums, his music with the Jackson 5 and the Jacksons AND with the new releases and upcoming releases, I would be perfectly fine with having only Michael's music on a deserted island; since Michael's music covers EVERY emotion. I wouldn't get bored or have to skip over tracks.
