Wow this is a hard question. I'd have to narrow it down first from these choices:

Maxwell - his voice makes me calm when I want to punch people at work who piss me off so I know he'll keep me in a relaxed state of being on a deserted island.

Mariah Carey - she's got some great songs and some not so great songs that just make me laugh my ass off lol

Janet Jackson - because then I can get 'Scream' and 'Best Things In Life Are Free' and maybe sneak some MJ and Luther Vandross in there too. Win-Win! evillol lurking

TLC - my girls always keep me happy...plus their albums are usually good from beginning to end. mushy

Prince (of course) - not so much because he's so diverse in his music but because there's soo much in his discography. He has over 30 studio albums alone. One album a month is more than 30 months...either someone will rescue me by that point or I'll have figured out a way to make a boat and do what Tom Hanks did in 'Castaway' (minus Wilson though...ahhh Wilson sad )

Soo.... hmmm

I'm gonna go with Ms. Jackson.

C'mon Damita Jo, let's do this.

music

Prince Rogers Nelson

Sunset: April 21, 2016
~My Heart Loudly Weeps

Any of these would be fine...

Prince

Michael Jackson

John Lennon [don't need the Beatles stuff either.. just his solo career]

Yoko Ono

Caetano Veloso

Elvis Presley

Each of these artists are in my top 10 favorites, and have a large and varied discography. I can't pick just one of them as I like them all about equal. I would be ok with any one of them.

Awesome. We can always expect that from you, dude.

Well I'd take Prince but he has too much "spotty" work way too many albums that I skip tracks. At least 8 of their 9 albums I can listen too straight anytime, the one that's mediocre is ironically the one David Z produced at Paisley Park, must be something in the water up there.

Or you can be stuck there 15 years like Gilligan's Island (according to the Rescue From Gilligan's Island movie).

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Yep that is the music from pretty much every era of my life. I'd do just fine with that - especially with all the upcoming re-releases included. smile

It might take me a good 4 years to get through all of the 'The Rainbow Children' alone so I might just make it. That album requires multiple breaks betwen songs for me. lol

Prince, easily, no doubt.

It sounded great then, and it still does now.

Plus, it's my coming of age story set to music. It just fits. wink

If I can't have P on the island, then it would have to be Maxwell, D, Chaka, Donna, MJ, Teena Marie, or Rick.

Not an easy pick, but Miles would probably be my choice, too.

I think they're saying that if you picked John Lennon for example, you'd have all the work he did with the Beatles and his solo work.

Yep, that's it aardvark15!

Well that could mean you can pick a session musician/singer (like Billy Preston, Herbie Hancock, or The Waters siblings) and have all the records he or she played/sang on. razz

[Edited 10/3/12 15:30pm]

Yep, that is the idea.

Basically the question narrows it down to just one singer/musician whose catalogue awards you with the most pleasure/satisfaction. The artist whose catalogue you would pick when leaving for a deserted island!

It is very hard though to pick one, because people like various artists for different reasons.

Another sucky thing is that your absolute favorite artist could have only made one or two albums. So eventhough that music is the absolute best music you know, you still wouldn't most likely pick him/her, but some other artist who is brilliant too but has a large and/or varied catalogue.

Choose wisely, my friends!

exactly, by "deserted" island I get that there are not tiresome/dangerous humans around, but that doesn't mean there isn't technology/buildings: paradise indeed...
