I have to think that I'm at least as famous as The Meters.

I know, you've never heard of me. I bet you've never heard of The Meters, either.

I heard of the Meters, I saw their records at relatives houses and they were also like Booker T & The MG's, the Muscle Shoals house band, and The Funk Brothers in that they played on a lot of other folks records. I didn't know this was the "Hit Records Hall Of Fame". lol

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

People's opinions about the Hall of Fame are strange. I don't see what's so strange about the Meters. They were funk pioneers... why wouldn't they be considered a serious contender just like War were?

Apparently some people think only really famous people made music, or that people they like should be in. I don't know why people take this so seriously anyway, especially if Jann Wenner can get inducted. razz It's just a museum in Cleveland, Ohio.

That's what kills me lol I think for me I just want folks to get recognition and presumably lots of people do get recognition but yeah you have to be suspicious of a museum who inducts its own committee member! lol

It's doubtful that many of the people complaining about who's in or not, and which acts are "rock n roll" have even been to the place. lol

Reportedly, fans get to give some input this year...

(CNN) -- The nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's class of 2013 have been announced, and for the first time ever fans will get a say in who will be inducted.

First-time nominees Rush, Deep Purple, N.W.A., Public Enemy, Albert King, The Marvelettes and Procol Harum join previously nominated acts Chic, Heart, Donna Summer, Kraftwerk, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Randy Newman, Paul Butterfield Blues Band and The Meters.

Watch a video of this year's nominees

To be eligible for a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nomination, artists must have released their work at least 25 years prior to appearing on the ballot. That means this year's hopefuls released their first single in 1987 or earlier. Blues guitarist Albert King has been eligible since 1987, while 2013 marks the first year the seminal hip-hop acts N.W.A. and Public Enemy are eligible.

From today through December 5, fans can vote at several sites including Rockhall.com to boost their favorite artists' chances of making the cut. The top five acts selected by those votes will become part of a special "fans' ballot" that will be counted alongside the international voting body of more than 600 artists, historians and industry members.

The winners will be revealed in December and the 28th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held in Los Angeles at the Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE on Saturday, April 18, 2013. The show will be broadcast on HBO at a later date.

So next year, you know what to do:

RODEOSCHRO FOR THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME.

You might not have every heard OF them, but I am sure you've heard them.

I do two Meters songs in my band, though this one is not credited to them....

^^Ah, wow! 2 big hits? And those happened 30 years ago. I would be hard pressed to name any other song or classic album besides those. So how is she more valid than Kiss? How are the Runaways valid (other than being one of the few all female rockbands) and how do they factor into nominating Joan Jett and and the Blackhearts? Which is a totally different entity?

And while I'm not a Deep Purple fan I think it's ridiculous that it took 20 years until they got their first nomination. Before they induct all the other acts that are not rock at all or just get inducted because the hall runs out of acts to induct they should have inducted the rock bands that really deserved it.

[Edited 10/4/12 5:43am]

I think that both Kiss and Joan Jett ought to be in there. In the eighties Joan was one of the few acts keeping traditional rock and roll alive and she was hugely influential to the female acts that followed her. Her early albums are some of the best rock and roll of the eighties by men or women.

Yup Deep Purple ought to be in there but it is obvious that the people that make thet decisions are very biased against certain acts. I would argue that Deep Purple, Kiss, Judas Priest, Motorhead and Iron Maiden all should have been inducted the very first year that they were eligible. They all sold a ton of albums (well, maybe not Motorhead) and have all been extremely influential, what is the justification for snubbing them?

Aha! So Kiss should not be in the ROCK N ROLL Hall of fame but Chaka Kahn and Donna Summer (and any other non Rock acts or Rock acts, who are one hit wonders and/or not relevant in any way... jeez, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts?? Seriously??) should be?? Yeah, right!

Do you remember that Kiss lead singer had many problems with MJ? here in this forum it`s worse than blasphemy. lol
I agree, Kiss should be included. Motorhead, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and Kraftwerk too. wink

"Legends" is probably a word that is used too often and I don't think I would use that word to describe Kiss but in what way are they "kinda like a make believe band really?" They wrote or co-wrote nearly every song that they recorded and played most of the instruments on their albums, Paul Stanley has produced several of their albums. Many people may not like them but they are a fairly capable and self-contained band.

They are definitely NOT a make-believe band, but they are kind of like one in the sense that everyone knows who kiss is, but not that many people actually know their music.

They are so much more famous for their image than their music. A complete imbalance.

I have nothing against Joan Jett. I think she's badass and has been around a long time but if she gets in before Suzi Quatro i'll be pissed. Suzi Quatro is the original Joan Jett. She jacked here entire sound, style & look and did better commercially but Suzi iz the real deal. She should be nominated.

^ I don't think Joan is getting in anyway least not now (though she is become a top vote getter on the Rock Hall vote page). Heart and Donna Summer seem like shoo-ins compared to Joan/Blackhearts.

Hmm, you think that's a reason for her induction? Not saying it isn't possible since I'm actually rooting for her too, but really? Well you may have a point. Though Joan admittedly was the West Coast's/PA answer to Detroit's Suzi Quatro.
