Nelly Furtado flops!!!

I can't believe how badly this album is doing. It debuted this week at #79 selling only 6,000 copies. It will probably fall off Billboard next week. Is this the biggest high-profile flop in years?

I think the album is amazing! It's one of my favorite releases of the past 6 months.

Any thoughts?? confused

that's cause america will never appreciate her like her home country smile she also had one of the best albums of 2006, beating 20 yo by a long shot

A questionable choice in the lead single hurt whatever momentum she'd built. Then came the album delay, a tell-tale sign that the label was bracing for a poor-selling project.

its not a shock because she was a mainstream artist because she worked with timbaland prior to that she wasnt, and then after working with timbaland she basically was not mainstream again, so that factored in with time between albums, no shock at all

The album failed to crack the Top 10 in Canada. So its being met with indifference there too.

I bought the album and I'm kinda eh.

Or it could just be me. I think the day I never thought would come has finally arrived.

I just don't care enough about pop music anymore.

Albums I normally would've been interested in (Alicia Keys, No Doubt, Lupe Fiasco) I'm not even going to look at.

I guess it's true what they say about older people and pop music.

That's right! As we get older, we get smarter and ultimately we end of with better taste in music and many other things. razz

I didn't hear about her releasing a new album. I didn't even see any ads for it.

I have not seen the numbers but I have been anxiously awaiting the release of her new CD.

It is a pretty good CD overall (you can see my review on my blog below) and she did a decent amount of apearances to promote the CD

Yet, I think she lost alot of her audience when she did an all Spanish album and her choice of first single was not so hot.

Parking Lot should have been the lead off single to begin with as its a much better song then Big Hoops.

It will be interesting to see what she does to counter the low sales if anything as she may be done recording from a recent interview I saw with her...

Her greatest hits album a year ago or so even failed to chart, so this is not a shock at all. She was a fad in 2006-2007. Not that it should stop anyone enjoying her music though.

I imagine it's underperforming everywhere.

Not surprising. She always seemed like a one hit wonder put up to be more than that. Sort of like (supposedly) soulful Natalie Umbrulia.

definitely not a one hit wonder here, maybe it hasn't charted high, but you couldn't get away from her 2006-2008

It's a good album, but it was set up wrong from the beginning. The record label pretty much messed up promotion from the first single earlier this year. I bought the deluxe edition.
