I bought these 3 about the same time. I still mostly bought records and occasionally cassettes.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Not the first in my household, but my very first one was TLC's CrazySexyCool....before that I did have my first LP's, which were Madonna's Like a Virgin and the Locomotion 45 back in the 80's.

The first cd i bought was 1991. Karyn White's Ritual of Love not long

after i purchased my first cd player. I was still stubborn about buying

cd's at that time. I refused to get MJ's Dangerous on cd. I bought

the vinyl mainly because cd's were overpriced and still packaged funky

at that time in those long tall plastic planks and vinyl was still cheap at

7.99-8.99

Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

i forgot all about those silly plastic things on them at the stores, but they were there till the late 90's too sometimes

and ritual of love is a great album smile

The symbol album by Prince was the first CD I got, I think in 1995. I had been listening to tapes and LPs before that. I suppose everyone else I knew had already abandoned them, but my mother was sick / out of work for years and we couldn't afford a CD-player sooner.

I think the very first cd I get is actually quite collectible: James Browns Motherlode. It contains a long version of People Get Yourselves Together and Drive Your Funky Soul (you gotta love him for his titles!) that you cannot find anywhere else as far as I know.
But I'm going back to LPs too.
Will the cd make 40? CD party

I got my first CD player back in 1985, when I was 12. My first CD was Olivia Newton-John - Soul Kiss.

yeah I was still listening to cassettes and LP's and 45's till 1995 when I got my first personal CD player, followed by a discman the year after, those were so expensive and such a big deal then.

I picked up these two at the same time in October, 1992. I didn't actually get a cd player until Christmas, 1992.

The first CD I ever owned was a gift:

Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5 - Compact Command Performances

But the first CD I ever bought was Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814.

My dad had the only CD player in the house at the time so to hear them I had to play them on his player downstairs. I had a turntable in my room to play records.

This album was given away with cd players when they first appeared in the UK, and I think was one of the very first music albums to be released on the cd format. No wonder it had the title of best selling cd for what seemed like an age. I think it was the first cd to reach a million sales or something.
