Mad World: Tears for Fears vs. Gary Jules

Which one do you like best?

My choice, Tears for Fears. To me, Gary's version sounds more like a serial killer is after me. Tears for Fears version sounds more true to the song's lyrics. Plus the dancing in the Tears for Fears video is cool as shit (some may disagree).

While I love both of them, Gary Jules' version is what a remake should be. Gary stuck to the basic foundation of the song, but added elements of his own.

True, I can agree with that.

Tears for Fears. hmph!

I agree with shorttrini about adding his own spin, but there is something creepy about Gary Jules' version.

It was used in the opening of an episode of "CSI". shake

I've seen Tears for Fears a couple of times and they still sound great...Love their version of course but I think Gary Jules does a good job with it and def. gives it a more "darker" feel. This song has been covered so many times, a testament to what a great song it is.

I saw them about two weeks after MJ passed away and they did a bluesy cover of "Billy Jean" that was amazing!! I videotaped most of it. Serious, they paid homage and it was unforgettable!!

I love this song and I love every version I've heard.

I like Adam Lambert's version, too, to be honest.

lol serial killer

I've loved the tears for fears one since the 80's and would play the videos alongside their other hits, and would continue playing it constantly in the 90's, loving the buildup of the music in the choruses and that part with the silluhoette in the video, so of course this is the one I like.

I was mad about the slaughtering of that song with the lousy remake and wouldn't shut up about it.

I HATE the Jules version lol

I actually find the synth sound of the original more chilling... then the accostic piano on Jules.

And i hate glambert's version to lol

Yeah Gary's version was too moody even for my taste (and I love some moody stuff...) and Adam's was really a carbon copy of Gary's. Tears for Fears' version actually had the perfect sound for the song's lyrics. In Jules' version, it's almost like he's about to commit suicide... neutral

Tears for Fears by miles, Gary was do bland and somber, and Adam made it sound like a damn Celine Dion song

Tears, Jules version is so damn overblown. The orginal actually has some subtley to it instead being a mope fest.

I always had a soft spot for Roland (the curly haired dude). He kinda (I said kinda lol) look like he could've been Michael Hutchence's brother. lol

Gary Jules all the way, if the order had been reversed I would have said Tears for Fears had ruined the song.

I think Johnny Cash could have done a killer rendition of this song.

Especially after the Hurt. personal Jesus & others he did.

Love tears for fears and definitely choose their version of it. Hated the hype that Gary Jules version got when it came out, but its a decent remake to be fair, Just not my personal cup of tea. The tears for fears version is very haunting and the video was creepy to with, well what looks like a jewish family standing by the lake at night toward the end. I definitely can imagine a Johnny Cash rendition too!

Roland is the one doing the eccentric dancing in the video...right?

I very much prefer Gary Jules' version, I like the haunting atmosphere he created. The Tears for Fears original does nothing for me shrug.

But that's exactly what makes the song special IMO lol.
