You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

This is a question for all the NE fans out there, what does NE recieving the Lifetime Achievement Award mean for you? Well if you ask me, it means a lot, for 3 decades, they have indured a lot, not gonna mention any of it to keep it short, but they did some postive things that have happened for them, they have paved the way for many boybands that are in the industry right now, but only a handful of them, such as NKOTB, Boyz II Men, TROOP and even Backstreet Boys have given NE the acknowledgement for many years and now, most of the entire industry is finally giving them the recognition that has been long overdue. That is how I feel about this. Any takers?

Since it's the Soul Train Music Awards , a point that has been left oit of this thread I think, it means very little. That's not a diss to them or STMA, but it's not the same as a Grammy Lifetime Award or RRHOF. And I don't know what you mean the part in bold. lol Really? The entire industry is giving them props? M'kay.

If you haven't heard by now, Bobby Brown has a new reality show coming to BET and this just in, Johnny Gill will be having an episode of Unsung coming as well. Post your comment on this.

This is awesome. Johnny Gill has had a special kind of career path starting before New Edition that I don't know dick all about. Collab'd with Stacy Lattisaw.

I wish Being Bobby Brown (with Whitney) had been released to DVD because they were just having a lot of fun on that show. I hope he can make the new show just as fun.

EXCLUSIVE// New Edition’s Ultimate “Candy” Girl On The Object Of Her Affection

Published by Danica Daniel on Friday, October 12, 2012 at 6:00 am.

In honor of the 30th Anniversary of New Edition’s 1983 debut single, “Candy Girl,” Ralph, Ronnie, Ricky, Bobby, Mike, and Johnny and Centric are officially on the hunt to find “The Ultimate Candy Girl.”

With the the competition in full swing, CENTRIC sat down with New Edition Fan Club president and the self-proclaimed ultimate candy girl, Candy Lowd, for an enlightening look on what makes New Edition the baddest band in the land for their millions of fans and how the fellas changed her life.

How did you become the president of the New Edition Fan Club?
I started the website in 1995. There were other really good websites out there already that other fans had started websites, but there was no official website. So I just wanted to put everything that fans would want all in one website.

There’s millions of bands, what made New Edition your ultimate obsession?
I’m from Boston so I was a fan right from the beginning. Plus, when “Candy Girl” came out, it was at a really trying time in my life. I was, I think, thirteen and my real name is Candy, which a lot of people don’t realize. They think I changed my name because I have the website. So, it felt like the song was about me and it kind of changed a lot of things in my life.

Was Candy Girl the first album you ever bought?
“Candy Girl” was the first record and the album was the first album I ever bought. I don’t think I bought another album or CD until Jamie Foxx, which is only a few years ago.

CENTRIC and New Edition are holding “The Search For The Ult... contest. Who is the the “Ultimate Candy Girl?”
Wow. I’ve met so many fans over the years. I’ve seen fans come to concerts with all of their New Edition gear on. There are fans that travel around to a bunch of shows so much that the members of New Edition actually know when they’re in the audience. It’s really hard to say because a “Candy Girl” could be anyone that’s a really big fan of New Edition. I’m really dying to see what those video entries look like.

What do all “Candy Girls” have in common?
They are all dedicated fans that have stuck by New Edition through thick and thin. Through the ups and downs of them being together, breaking up, separating into separate groups and getting back together again. Real “candy girls” just never wavered.

What are your thoughts on New Edition being honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2012 Soul Train Music Awards?
It’s almost like the fans are getting this award too. A lot of the fans, including myself, have constantly tried to get them what they deserve and it’s almost like they were never really recognized the way they should be. And all of us know that. When Soul Train just recognized it, the fans saw that as their accomplishment. I almost felt like I personally was getting an award and a lot of the fans that I talked to said that they felt that same way and that they started crying when they heard about [the Soul Train] award.

If you could tell New Edition one thing, what would it be?
Wow. That’s a difficult question. I would just say congratulations on being recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award. It’s been a long time coming and I hope to see them one day, years from now when they’re in their rocking chairs, still up on stage and still performing for us.

Want to be the ULTIMATE C...ion NOW!!!

I love them and this clip....I have all of the autographs exempt Johnny's. My favorite is Ronnie Devoe, that man just does something to me n those shades. He is probably considered the least attractive of them all.
I would have been screaming like a 12 year old chic at that concert. I don't know of ANY person who doesn't like this group. My all time favorite is Can You Stand The Rain....that song is CLASSIC!
