Who came out first? Erykah Badu or Joi? Started listening to Joi's stuff and am puzzled why she never blew up-could it be because she and Erykah are slightly similar? [Edited 11/1/12 7:05am] "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Joi had a stream of bad luck related 2 record companies and timing.

I also think she was boxed into neosoul, which didn't help "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Not 2 mention Joi does NOT tolerate B.S.

Joi was never neo soul ever. People use that term too loosely. Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. RIP Nick. - Pee Wee Herman

Joi dropped this classic album in 1994, three years before Baduizm.

I freaked out several years ago when i found Joi was former NFL player Jefferson Street Joe Gilliam's daughter.

Joi is very straight forward and does not take the b.s. that occurs in the music business like a lot of female artist would. She will check a mofo in a minute. That rep gets around.

I love Joi! I've never actually heard Pendulum Vibe though. I know Madonna heard the album and sought out Dallas Austin to work with her on Bedtime Stories.
I do own Star Kitty's Revenge which is pretty funky! "Keep in mind that I'm an artist...and I'm sensitive about my shit."--E. Badu

There is nothing wrong with putting people in check if they act up. It's a shame that impacted her when if it was a male artist, it wouldn't be an issue. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."
