And much props 4 posting these good news Essence. Great news yeah, some tried to play it like she was finished after "the id". I copied and pasted this from a newsletter of hers, no colabos mentioned other than using Lil Bow Wow's video maker. hehe Have you seen her live? Doesn't look like there's an NYC show for you, shame because she'll surely be doing full showcase of new album.

Well good that Calhoun and RDhull got the hookup on the dates anyway. I guess she doesn't get the promo to hip them on tourdates these days...
What do you all think about her new single? You can hear it on the website...

Outstanding thump-bumpin' song. Love the instrumentation and live feel. Great to hear a song that has some serious bottom unlike all the "tinny" sounding R&B/POP of today. Macy Gray is great.
Harlepolis: Who cares about guest producers/artists? 90% of the time it is just music industry contrived bullshit. That is all you hear about today is who's guesting on who's record, who's in the studio with who! Santana being the rare exception of where having guest artists - and the promotion of such - really makes some sense and was done very well. Macy should just do her own thing and put out a slammin' album. She doesn't need all that contriveness to produce a great CD. Instead of being the "Anti-Britney", she could be the "Anti- DO what everyone else is doing because everyone else is doing it" artist. Anyway, thanks for the post Essence. Made my day to hear that song. Can't wait for the album!

Fans will love it but I don't see it gaining her new converts reminds me of songs that feature on "the id".

Harlepolis: I hear ya. Just commenting in general that someone like Macy who writes her own music and has a band that actually plays, doesn't need to follow that trend. Same with Prince. On "Rave Unto..." I thought the cameos were essentially pointless. Just there for promotional name-dropping purposes. Now if Prince were to do a whole record with say, Lenny Kravitz, then that would be cool. But most of the time cameos/guests are packaged promotional tools for less than great CD's. Macy is great without having to do that in my opinion.
Essence: "Macy by numbers"? I don't know about that until we hear the rest of the album. But I look at it like this - the song doesn't sound like anything else that's out now. Macy has her own musical style which I like alot. Maybe there will be more experimentation on the album, but Macy doing what Macy does is cool by me since musically she isn't like everyone else. I think it is a fantastic song though and really put me in a good mood listening to it. Now I have some music to look forward to. That being rare these days!

The music in that new single "When I See You" smells an awful lot like Nikka Costa's "Some Kind of Beautiful" I still luvs Macy though.

I swear, the crackheads that answer the phones @ the Fillmore need to get their shit together!! WHY have I been up there TWICE (on my lunch break yesterday & today) to pick up tix b/c I'd been told over the phone that the box office would be open & the shit was CLOSED??? Luckily it's close to my job but I'm still wasting gas & time behind some bitch eating a Subway sandwich, talking w/ her mouth full!! If you can't do customer service, go stack boxes somewhere dammit!!
I'll have a better attitude on Monday If they're not sold out

Don't get me wrong I enjoy the single a lot, maybe I just hoped for a fresh twist. Like I said it sounds like an outtake from "the id" IMO, but in no way am I judging the rest of the album...

Essence thanks for providing this valuable info. I loved Macy's first record and I was waiting for her to drop something so I'm glad to see she's still around. Her last album deserved more props. I'm going to try to make it to the St. Andrews Hall show.

MACY @ THE FILLMORE, SF tonight
Macy was REALLY good tonight! Great energy, the crowd was SO into it (SF gave her MUCH love tonight) & she sounded cool. I had a great time!! For anyone who cares, Macy is sporting a blondish/brownish weavy mane that hangs down in her face, it suits her well. Looks like she shed a few too She wore a long scarf that people kept pulling on & stroking everytime she went to touch hands, etc, & she did that a LOT this was her first time in SF (so she said) the vibe in the house was so giving, I think she really dug that. I'm not good at giving setlists, so I'll just mention some songs she did. The segues were killer, they rarely stopped between songs, just kept flowing from one to the other... Relating to a Psychopath (I think she opened w/ this) She Don't Love You Like I Do? - it's from the new album, not sure of the title but it sounded GREAT. Kinda slow - you know her style - totally jealous & heartfelt, I dug it When Will I See You? - again, from the new album Sexual Revolution - she told everybody that if they got a little naked, the band would do the same. Of course various shirts, I believe a pair of drawz & at least one cup came flying on stage (not at her, it was cool). Then my girl took her pants down :O She was making me laugh all night!! Hey Young World (Slick Rick) THIS was the SHIT!!! Sweet Baby Gimme All You Lovin' Or I Will Kill You - it was so great to hear this one live, not one of my favorites but it sounded so cool... Oblivion - one of the guitarists held up cards w/ the lyrics on it so we could all sing along. I friggin' hate this song, but it had such a carnival vibe about it & everyone was into it, I couldn't resist Rapture (Blondie) - started out as just the band playing it, killing time until Macy reappeared (the encore). She joined in, did a verse, then they switched to another song - SWEET! Come Together (Beatles) - after some anti-war comments Celebrate the Dick! (chant) can't remember how it went, but it was funny as hell Why Didn't You Call Me Do Something I Try - this was long & soulful & just fucking lovely, everybody sang @ the top of their lungs Sex-O-Matic Venus Freak I've Committed Murder - they jammed on this one!! I heard Paul Mooney was in the house somewhere, I was DYING to ask if he's doing any dates while in town but I didn't see him Anyway, if you dig Macy, check out her show - you WILL have a good time!!

I have heard Macy’s entire upcoming Album twice. IMO, it is better tan the material on the Id. It’s even deeper, funkier. "When I See You" was the only "radio friendly" track I heard, but that could be a good thing too
