Adele tells other female artists not to use sex to sell music; But did she right?
Do you think Adele is speaking as a person of talent? OR is she speaking as a person who can not do what other female artists can do?

I commend Adele for her commercial success. A rarity where a bonafide vocalist who can make meaningful and uplifting music. She can say whatever she wants about the state of pop music. She has credibility with me. However, I don't know if she wants to challenge Madonna on her music. Madonna no matter what you think of her music, has longevity and has earned her place in music. The media can instigate like no other. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR

And singing songs about heartbreak is the solution...please! But all jokes aside, I respect her message here. I just don't get the whole Madonna beef. Sex wasn't the only entity in Madonna's repertoire and it wasn't necessarily the only thing that people held in regard when it came to her music. Image...maybe, but I would even dispute that. I think she's speaking as a fat person who can't sell sex if she tried.
Neverthelss I agree with her to an extent. Sexiness should NOT be a musical artist's most prominent attractant or claim to fame. Their talent should be stronger than their sex appeal.
The ratio is key. | |

Good call. Unless you're Angelina Jolie your talent should be stronger than your sex appeal. If you are Angelina on the other hand, they should be about equal Music, sweet music, I wish I could caress and...kiss, kiss...

Of course she has a point, but I don't think her own promo photos give a very realistic presentation of her. They're airbrushed, cropped and for the most part she look nothing like those images. She's presenting just as distorted view of what women look like, or should look like, as the female artists that dress up like porn actresses do.
Established artists like Lady Gaga and Beyoncé are not the problem, but I do see a problem with the countless young girls on Youtube (or Myspace, in that past) that think being a singer is about looking hot and not even bothering to learn how to sing. Lady Gaga and Beyoncé are both real singers, I don't think anyone can seriously deny that.

No body is denying that.... however, I think people would be INDENIAL if they didnt admit that they ALSO sale sex MORE so than their singing..... especially Beyonce/ Rihanna which is primarily their main market.
Just because you can sing doesnt excuse that fact.
I agree with Adeles comments overall I kinda disagree with the diss towards Madonna because she is known for alot of other things besides Sex and she has longevity REGARDLESS and that is something currently I would say is not her primarily market even Gaga..... I honestly think the two main artists that do that today is Rihanna and Beyonce but I guess since they have "good images" their not going to be called out for it

Adele is a fan of Beyonce so she wouldnt say nothing about Beyonce.
Adele is CRAZY for thinking that she can diss Madonna like that (one doesn't even have to like Madonna but she's done many things in her career cant say the same bout Adele), this comes from a brit girl who was inspired by the spice girls to start singing. -_- When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace -Jimi Hendrix

Agreed, Adele has been doing the same type of record since 08, she's not original and not very creative either. Madonna might have lacked the vocals but she was creative and versatile and shouldnt be compared to an artist that's boring to death! People might call me a hater, but I dont care, I think this chick is so overly overrated that I'm getting sick of it. She was inspired by country music, fine but that doesnt make her the greatest thing ever. Sex (imagery) and music has always been linked together, it doesn't mean it's bad. Prince and Madonna have both used sex in their music and it didnt make it worse. When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace -Jimi Hendrix

I got a bone to pick with you but Im going to PM you cause I dont want to derail the thread.
But to answer your last statement I agree that its not really good to lump Madonna up with Lady Gaga because Madonna sex appeal was for artistic purposes and it wasnt something that she used throughout her ENTIRE career.
When people think of Madonna they think of MANY DIFFERENT things not solely "sex" but I guess since its okay to bash Madonna because she is known to be controversial nothing will be said about this.
To be honest, I really cant say the same for Lady Gaga and I am not even a fan
Nobody is calling her the sexiest woman alive as well as her music and TO BE HONEST, I dont really find her music videos to be OVERLYsexualize like I do with Beyonce, Rihanna or Nikki which are the first number of artists that come to mind when I think of an artist who sales sex more than their music.
I definitly AGREE with Adeles overall point though but the artists she CHOSE are a little off.
I think calling out Beyonce and Rihanna or Nikki are more fitting for that point, the ENTIRE music industry for that matter.....

Thats why while I agree with her point at the same token
I think its phoney of her not to acknowledge ALL the artists that do this
it comes across like she is just bashing artists she doesnt like.
So all and all I agree but then I disagree with how she chose to bash the artists she doesnt like instead of acknowledging it as a overall problem.

I guess it doesn't matter that she doesn't even mention Madonna or Lady Gaga in her article.
Just a general critique about the scene at large.
