How would you rate Sting as a singer?

I think he has weak, reedy voice-not too great of a range. To me, he is a much better songwriter.

While I agree he's a better songwriter than singer, I think his voice is still pleasant and I wouldn't say it's weak at all.

He's limited but capable of doing good work when he wants to. I loved his live singing for the Police, very passionate and soaked in energy.

I think he has a unique whine to his voice. Of course he is a better songwriter but his voice is the icing smile

I agree Sting's voice is distinctive and yet mediocre.

Doesn't matter.

If you're an elite singer-songwriter, all you have to do is be able to carry a tune and your shit will still be better than most of the shit on radio or performed by your peers.

Plus, don't discount the evocative nature of his voice. Most singer-songwriters I know understand just the right inflections to bring out the emotions in the piece they wrote because they are so connected to the music.

I'd rather listen to a captivating songwriter with a serviceable voice than listen to a great voice who just sings what's handed to them.
