what do they mean by this:

An octave is a doubling in frequency. If you sing an A, then sing an A up an octave from the first one, it is the same note but much higher sounding.
An octave is broken into 12 semi tones or notes.
On a grand piano, there are usually 88 keys or notes, which is 7 octaves + 4 more notes.
A "2 octave, 5 note" range would be 27 notes (2 x 12 + 5). Music, sweet music, I wish I could caress and...kiss, kiss... | |

I once took bass guitar lessons that included singing the notes we played. The teacher told me I could hit 4 octaves. But I have no illusions about that making me a good singer! It's about making people believe what you sing. In that respect, Keith Richards and Bob Dylan are better singers than Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. | |
