Would You Say David Coverdale is One Of The Best Blues Singers?

David first replaced Ian Gillan in the bluesy rock band Deep Purple, and David was a much stronger voice then Ian, but sadly lasted only a few albums.

David started Whitesnake in the late 70's & had an amazing band behind him, and many great lineups and had blues in his lyrics & voice for all the albums until...

1987, the huge Whitesnake album that gave them the number 1 hit Here I Go Agin & the top top 10 Is This Love.. not ot mention the hits Still of The Night & Give Me All Your Love. That album was great but started down the more ''polished'' road.

I think David has one of the best voices in blues from the late 70's throughout the 80's

For me definately. Whitesnake 1987 was the first rock album i had heard when it came out i was 13 and completely blew me away.

I know now his voice is shot but the last album, Forevermore is a great piece of hard rock, their best since 1987, although Slip Of The Tongue still rocks it today thanks to Mr Vai.

If you are talking Blues-Rock (Robert Plant, Paul Rodgers, Greg Allman) I could maybe see him fitting in there. If you are talking Blues overall I don't think of him as a Blues singer and would have to say "no."

Hmmm, maybe blues-rock was a better term there smile

I really wanted to basically ask do you think he is one of the best white blues singers but.. some might think of that politically incorrect lol

I think Dave could have done great if he was just doing some down n dirty blues, of course he also had fascinations with Purple & Zeppelin that led him more down the rock path. But i think he has very bluesy voice, that far outpowers a lot of his rock peers.

And i kind of laugh when people say Whitesnake is metal lol lol lol lol lol

There late 70's stuff to 1984 was blues-rock, then the 1987 & Slip Of The Tongue album was pop-rock glory. I just don't see them as a metal band razz

I heard this song & a few others.. i do like them. But for some reason i have not checked out the past 2 Whitesnake albums confused

IDK why lol i love the band & this is a great lineup.

Did either of you happen to hear Restless Heart? it wasn't released in the U.S for awhile. But it's one of the best they did!

Yeah i love Restless Heart, i believe that it's getting the deluxe treatment this year along with his solo album Into The Light, i saw them on the Restless Heart tour. it was actually supposed to ba a solo album but the label wanted a snake album which is why it's credited as a David Coverdale's Whitesnake album.

forgot it was meant as a solo album!, i can still see it as a snake album. Since Adrian Vanderberk from the 1987 was back on the axe!

I don't recall the other members at the time though sad confused

i think it was Denny Carmassi on drums, Guy Pratt on bass for the album while Tony Franklin played bass on tour, and Brett tuggle played keys on the album and Derek Hilland played keys on the tour and Steve Farris played rhythm giutar on the tour.
