"Star of a Story" - Heatwave or George Benson? ...
In 1977, Heatwave keyboardist Rod Temperton penned this ballad for the second Heatwave album, "Central Heating". A couple of years later, Quincy Jones had Temperton tailor the song for the George Benson album, "Give Me The Night" (1980). I was just wondering which version (if any) orgers prefer....

I can never decide which I prefer its such a great song, even Grenique did an excellent cover of it that was produced by Chico Debarge Life has a way of making you live it. . . .

I'll go with The Wave. Q did a nice job on the arrangement but the vocal vibe works better on the original for me. The Benson version comes off almost like the muzak version of the tune.

George Benson. I like the lower range he sings it in.

I like the Angelic way Heatwave delivered it...but Q & GB made it groove....I can never decide which one I like best...I've been trying for years!!!

This is a tough one
The Heatwave version is more haunting and mesmerizing, with a breezy production and light, airy vocals that float over the melody.Brilliant song!
George Benson's version sounds more polished, with clearer vocals and an excellent background vocal from Patti Austin.I think his version should have been released as a single.
can't choose! | |

I understand --for the record, I'm on the fence on this one, too--I like both--for me, each one has its strengths...

On the subject of Heatwave and George Benson, one of Heatwave's non-LP B-sides, "Turn Out the Lamplight", would also later be used on the George Benson "Give Me the Night" album....
