bring it ALL on - I don't care - love it all. My boyz - greatest band in MY lifetime - just a notch above the royal one. If there's one universal language in music - it's Stones. I can name that tune in one note Happy 50th - cya on the road.

I'm not sure what this means, but last night I dreamed I was Mick Jagger and me and the Stones were about to play a big, important, spur-of-the-moment concert.
I tried to get a rehearsal the day of the show, but the drummer Charlie Watts said, "Mate, we've been playing these songs for 40 years. We know how to play them already. Bugger off".
The concert begins and I pull my big surprise - I, Mick Jagger, am going to walk among the audience and sing! But when I get to the audience, no one can hear us. I look back and there are the Stones, tearing up some song, but no one can hear it!
To make matters worse, the arena was only half-full.

It was a bummer! I was so looking forward to hearing me singing with the Stones! I think we were playing "Brown Sugar" but now I don't remember.
I'm sure this dream stems from the fact that I've been totally digging on "Gimme Shelter" and "Sympathy for the Devil" for the last several days. Man, Keith Richards is a freaking genius.

I love the 'Stones. They've got great tunes and "Tumblin' Dice" was the theme song of a summer of abject debauchery.
But I find it fucking reprehensible that they are milking their fans with more bloatware for sale. They oughta be ashamed of themselves. The fact that this is a sticky is fucking offensive to me. These mutherfuckers will do anything to make more money. How many more greatest hits, remastered and/or anniversary compilations are they gonna sling?
I used to be a hardcore fan until now.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I never understood this kind of reasoning. Nobody is forcing the hardcore fans to buy the compilation. I think fans of dozens of bands wish their fav would still be around after 50 years to still record a song or two. And I think I said it earlier but an anniversary celebration screams a compilation of famous songs and not a new album that would barely go noticed.

Hey Ducci - I know how you feel, I could feel that way too if I was hardcore to a fault - but I nor anyone else is being forced buy any of the sheit. All I can look 4ward to is tix to an evening where I can sing and dance to all the old tunes I grew up with. And, do you realize that 'new' Stones fans emerge every day. There are teens out there only just discovering them - and it's all new to them. Hey turn on some of that old Chicago blues sessions - maybe a lil Red Rooster and enjoy it for what it is.

I'll probably buy the 3 CD Deluxe Edition

Thanks for the update. | |

Finally! It looks great and it's not random order after all! I guess I'm also picking up the 3CD version, nice that "Don't Stop" is included on it. So it seems the 2CD version doesn't exist after all?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
It seems not as it's been removed from amazon. Peeved that Bitch ain't on the 3 disc version.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I think they're promoting the 4 CD version; I mean, when you exclude "Shattered" (no less!) from the 3 cd version, you're indirectly forcing the folks to buy the 4 cd version; ain't gonna bite, I already own ALL those songs (excluding the two new tracks, of course), I'm basically buying the 3 CD deluxe version for the booklet, the two new tracks, plus "Highwire" (I don't own Flashpoint Live) and "Don't Stop" (I don't own 40 Licks), and for the sheer excitement of the 50th Anniversary thing...
besides, the 4 CD Deluxe version will be EXPENSIVE, easily 100 bucks, and the 96 pages A3 booklet is excessive...I already own enough magazines/books about the Stones...

I think I'm gonna just download the two new tracks.

Pretty good track-listing. It's mostly chronological but a few things are out of order here or there, I assume for purposes of flow and creating a good listening experience. That is a good approach, IMHO.
Most surprising to me is only 1 track from "Black and Blue" and also I'd have expected the title song to "Let it Bleed" to be included. I think "One Hit (to the Body)" and "Rock and a Hard Place" should have been included. But overall, not many quibbles.
I'm torn, I would really like to have this collection, but I've already got the vinyl box sets that came out a few years ago that have all of their LPs, and i have everything here digitally as well (i've already recreated the Grrr! tracklisting on Spotify, minus the new songs of course). And there are plenty of other things coming out that I want (like the new Beatles vinyl box), so my budget is limited.
But... still. I'd like to have it. We'll see if Santa is nice to me * * *

YEAH, not only one of their best rock songs of the 80s, but 100000000 times better than Harlem Shuffle, quite possibly their worst produced song of all time (followed closely by Back to Zero)

- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I don't mind "Harlem Shuffle" - and it was a Top 10 hit, so I can see why it was included. But I do think "One Hit to the Body" is a much much much stronger track.

Yeah, I noticed "She's A Rainbow" is the biggest "offender" in this regard since it should be played earlier to fit the chronological listing. I can't think of anything else than the better flow argument either.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
My guess is that it would have closed Disc 1 but they were already at 17 tracks and wanted to have an equal distribution of the 50 songs... and it makes more sense to have the 2nd disc open with a major song like "Jumpin' Jack Flash" rather than "She's a Rainbow".
That said, I really don't understand the 50 songs/3-CD version. Why not go to 60 and fill the CDs? There is tons of empty space. * * *

Stray Cat Blues and Tumbling Dice are the 2 tracks that to me really capture what the Stones are all about. * * *

The lyric vid for "Doom and Gloom".
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I LIKE IT, it sounds modern but Stones-ish enough, and it has that nasty/hard-edged flavour that I want in a rock song
I'd say it's worse than Rough Justice and not as catchy as Don't Stop, but slighty better than Saint of Me, You Got Me Rocking, Highwire, Sad Sad Sad, etc
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I like it quite a bit; been playing it a lot today * * *
