True.
I kind of wish they did that (guest guitarists) more often. I like Ron Wood but his style is pretty similar to Keith and there are things that neither one of them are capable of (Mick Taylor type stuff).

LOL! true
that's exactly why Mick has been toying with outside musicians/guitarists since the mid-80s...

Yeah, excellent riffs. That's my favorite song on Black and Blue. Perkins plays better guitar than Woods, who is too much like Keith.

Great news!!
My husband and I are huge Stones fans. We will definitely be buying this.

I like the title and the artwork. Always curious to hear what's on Mick's mind, so I'll check out the new songs.

I do!
Really? I love Don't Stop!:

Apparently the RS hardcore fans are having a meltdown over this, especially the cover and the title, it's funny to see several of us making nice comments about it here.

I think some fans are going to be disappointed because they may have hoped for a new album, but really 2 new songs of new materials is probably as much as we can expect from them at this point. I like the idea of a mega career-spanning retrospective that covers their story from the first single through today. It would be nice to see minor singles like "She Was Hot", "Heartbreaker", "Hang Fire", etc... things that didn't make the cut on 40 Licks getting a fresh listen by fans.
I have their last vinyl box sets, but i'm tempted to get this on vinyl as well. Would be a nice compilation. We'll see the cost.... * * *

I think it's pretty much a miracle that a band is still recording at least something in its 50th year (even though they only released 4 studio albums in the past 25 years), fans tend to get carried away and like I said earlier, they are supposed to be happy for the two new songs because it's more than what the general public expects from the band. Also, an anniversary like this SCREAMS a new compilation, it was a given!
Forty Licks had 36 hits, this one should have at least 11 more if we assume "Don't Stop" is going to be repeated from the 4 2002 recordings.

What the hell. I'll give it a guess for the 80-track version

^greatest? by greatest I guess we all mean the songs that made them the "best" rock and roll band of all time (not necessarily the radio-ready super-hits); in my opinion:
The Last Time (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction Get Off of My Cloud 19th Nervous Breakdown Paint It, Black Mother’s Little Helper Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing in the Shadow? Let’s Spend the Night Together Ruby Tuesday She’s a Rainbow Jumpin’ Jack Flash Street Fighting Man Sympathy for the Devil No Expectations Salt of the Earth Honky Tonk Women Gimme Shelter You Can’t Always Get What You Want Brown Sugar Wild Horses Can't You Hear Me Knockin' Sister Morphine Moonlight Mile Rocks Off Tumbling Dice Shine a Light Let it Loose Torn and Frayed Loving Cup Sweet Black Angel Sweet Virginia Angie Coming Down Again Heartbreaker Winter It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll (But I Like It) Time Waits 4 No One Fool to Cry Memory Motel Miss You Beast of Burden Before They Make Me Run Shattered No Spare Parts All About You Start Me Up Waiting on a Friend Undercover of the Night Slipping Away Love is Strong Thru and Thru How Can I Stop Back of My Hand

I like a lot of the Stones stuff alot, kind of shamefully i don't too much cause their catalogue is so intimidating.
I'll be getting this, so might as well go for the big version.

Where did the 2 CD version come from, that was not in the press release? And why can't it be chronological?

thoughts (both positive and negative)
-I hate the song order, sorry but I can't even see a pattern; hmm, an only ballads disc, an early hits disc, an only hard-rockers/radio songs disc and a not-so-well-known songs+the modern tracks would have make sense, but as it stands, it's a painful MESS, example: Sister Morphine + Hot Stuff ??? WHAT THE F !
-I love the fact that they have included strong album tracks and even some B-sides (Time Waits for No One, Far Away Eyes, She Said Yeah, Dandelion, etc) not only the singles/obvious choices...
-the lack of Keith's songs and ballads (other than the obvious Happy) is insulting, this is clearly Mick's doing, fuck him, songs like Before They Make Me Run, Slipping Away or Thru and Thru deserved to be here; this only confirms the idea that the Keith's songs for the Stones albums were always viewed as solo efforts...and why is Happy included in the 3cd version but NOT in the 4 ce version??? lame...
-Where the FUCK is Memory Motel?? hello?
now I'm not sure if I'm gonna buy this... maybe the 3 cd version

Apparently the tracklists appeared on a Dutch online retalier, not sure if it's that reliable.
http://www.bol.com/nl/s/a...tid=435466
And if I counted properly, on the 2CD version only 10 songs differ from Forty Licks: "Under My Thumb", "Mother's Little Helper", "She's a Rainbow", "Happy", "You Got Me Rocking", "Shattered" and the 4 songs recored for Forty Licks are absent...

"Climb in my fur." | |

Checked around various online retaliers and it seems the 2CD version will be for Europe only. But it's weird the press release does not talk about it.
Also, someone on Wikipedia uploaded a different tracklist for the 3CD that's straightforward chronological and it would be a much better version.

Judging by the crowd reaction when he opened for them back in the day, I'm guessing not very well. The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

that was in 1981, in front of a redneck american audience...
times have changed... | |

I agree. Even after hearing tons of fantastic album tracks, I still would go with Hot Rocks unless you're going to buy a bunch of their albums My Legacy
