Well if the remake was "Flashdance" it would be perfect for Rhianna. She could pretend to do the dance moves just like Jennifer Beals did in the original. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Now Rihanna remaking Flashdance makes way more sense.
TBH, all of these classics being used as vehicles to launch or maintain stars is a cheap trend I think.

It's not really a new trend, though.
How many times has A Star is Born been remade? JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!

I would prefer a new okay movie like Last Holiday over retreading a classic...

...if only because musicians don't make movies all that often.

The USA isn't the only country to do remakes. Jet Li remade Bruce Lee's The Chinese Connection as Fist Of Legend. Jackie Chan has been known to do many sequels like the ones for Police Story, the Lucky Stars series, Project A, etc. Many countries have based movies on the Japanese film Seven Samurai. Back in the studio days, Hollywood sometimes used footage from previous movies (generally westerns) and put it in other films to save time and money. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton
