Rihanna Rumored To Be Pursuing Role In Scarface Remake

Earlier
this year provocative pop star Rihanna tried her hand at acting in the alien
invasion action-adventure Battleship. With the tent pole feature that boasted a
$209 million price tag tanking hard at the box office, it proved a less than
auspicious debut. And while she certainly can't be blamed for this flop, her
flat performance did little to help. But no worries, the salacious singer is
popular enough that she's already got more movies on the way, including a
self-mocking cameo in the Seth Rogen Armageddon comedy The End of the World and
a rumored role in the Fast and the Furious 6. But rumor has it that Rihanna is
looking to step up her stardom by tackling a major role in Universal's
in-development Scarface remake.

Now before you join the ranks decrying a
remake of Brian De Palma's iconic 1983 crime drama that made "Say hello to my
little friend" a part of the cultural landscape for better or worse, keep in
mind his was not the original. That honor would go to the 1932 Scarface,
directed by Howard Hawks and Richard Rosson and adapted from Armitage Trail's
novel of the same name. Last fall, Universal hired Training Day screenwriter
David Ayer to draft a script for this latest reinvention, but little has been
heard about the production since then.

Nonetheless, Rihanna is said to
hold the 1983 version as a personal favorite, counting Elvira Hancock, the disco
diva played by Michelle Pfeiffer, as a fashion idol with "ridiculous swagger."
An unnamed source tells The Sun that Rihanna is angling to secure the role of
Elvira in Universal's remake. However, it is The Sun we're talking about here,
so consider this item with a heap of salt.

I'll believe that Rihanna
digs Scarface as well as Pfeiffer's flawless fashion sense in the flick, who
could blame her? But while the tabloid's secret source declared of Pfeiffer's
part that Rihanna "knows all the words and even has her walk perfected," and
supposedly has based some of the characters in her music videos on Elvira, it is
a big leap to state definitively that the pop star not only wants the role—or
its equivalent in the remake—but also believes she's ready to tackle such a
probably demanding part.

Having said all that: who would be a good fit
for a modern take on the Scarface story? Share your picks in comments.

I don't have a problem with a remake of Scarface because the Pacino version was a remake, but casting Rhianna is a bad idea.

It will never come close to matching Pacino's Scarface. I hope they do not remake it.

As for Rihanna, Battleship proved she cannot act.

You cannot blame a movie for the actions of a few dumb asses. The fact that they have trouble telling the difference between fact and fiction and go to jail for it, is on them....not a movie. About Rihanna, lobbying for a part...She could not act her way out of prison...

sigh Another lazy project by the hacks in Hollyweird. disbelief I just don't take them seriously anymore.

At least I can say that they put it out there that the 1983 "Scarface" movie is actually a remake. Most fools have yet to know that. I actually have the 1932 original with Paul Muni on DVD and feel that it's much better than the Brian DePalma one, though I do take a liking to the 1983 version but not for the same reasons as others. It's actually quite a hilarious movie. That and Steven Bauer was fine as hell back then. As legendary as Al Pacino is, his Cuban accent was horrible. lol Bottom line is, I basically laugh throughout the whole movie.

clapping Thank you. Movies don't make people do crimes and go to jail. Music lyrics don't make people do crimes and go to jail. Art can't be blamed for some folks unforgivable ignorant and foolish behavior.

well im sure its been suggested, especially considering two dying industries, music and movies, saturday night fever was huge in both, however, what hollywood fails to realize is that you cant re-capture that moment, they never learn. And then casting some pretty boy actor in place of Travolta who owns that role, and getting wack ass artists from today to cover the bee gees, would possibly be the saddes thing ever

thanks! the movie industry and television too are so devoid of anything creative, no one writes a new idea, its either based on this or that, a comic book, a rehash of a movie that already made its mark. I mean im not talking about sequels and franchises like star wars or star trek or endless horror movie sequels like SCREAM 10 or whatever. Im just talking in general, everything new, is OLD, which is even more annoying because this "generation" is all about YOUNG and no artists over 25 get played on regular radio they are considered "oldies", and yet everything coming out is based on the OLD? such a contradiction

Once again this proves that someone who cannot sing, act, dance or has an ounce of stage presence can somehow hustle a career out of being "an entertainer"...just let sleeping dogs lie on this one, enough is enough, her 15 minutes are well over

Actually I posted the "Saturday Night Fever" remake rumour here a few years ago. Simon Cowell supposedly bought the rights to the film and was going to remake it starring Zac (I can't remember his last name...but the kid from "High School Musical").

Sorry but that has "FAIL" written all over it. Even if they modernized it with dancing and slang from today it would still bomb. And the same goes for "Rocky", "Raging Bull" "Purple Rain" and "Star Wars"....C'mon Hollywood.....be original again.

they didnt do some lousy movie with Zac ? i think it was "New years eve" or something like that.

Hopefully it never happens since hollywood couldnt even get the Starsky and Hutch and Miami Vice movies correct, both were lousy since no one from the originals wanted any part of either, i heard Edward James Olmos was asked to be in Miami Vice the movie till he read the script and heard the cast.

I actually liked the "Rocky" and "Rambo" sequels. Stallone had good story lines written for both movies. And he paid for both flicks himself so that "low budget" feel is in there also.

I hated "Starsky And Hutch". Ben Stiller took the once cool "Starsky" character and made him a bumbling idiot. I didn't know that Olmos was asked to be in the "Miami Vice" movie. Smart move that he turned it down.

I read that the "Footloose" and "Sparkle" remakes didn't do too well in the theaters also.
