Dwele's new album, Greater Than One Against the ruin of the world, there
is only one defense: the creative act. -- Kenneth Rexroth

I tried so hard to get into this dude. I bought his first album due to the strength of his first single, "Find a Way" but I dunno...there's a cornball element in his stuff. If I want an updated neo-soul sound, I'll go listen to J*Davey.

That's kinda the way I feel about his work. To me, he never hits the notes and is very limited in his ability. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Sick of all that plasticy-try-too-hard-to-be-authentic soul bullshit. I liked Dwele's first album, and maybe even the second album as well. But after that, nope. The last thing I can even remember liking from Dwele was his collaboration on Kanye's "Flashing Lights." Check me out and add me on:

I feel the same way about him as I do with someone like Bilal. Check me out and add me on:

I like this song and What Profit. What Profit isn't his best stuff but still good. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

I always seem to like his unreleased stuff and rare tracks, remixes and collaborations with others much more than his official albums...they just seem to have a lot more imagination....

i tried too to get into Dwele. he's a homeboy that i see around town a lot and want to win but i've only heard a couple random tracks and was underwhelmed. the buzz didn't match the skill it seems. you can cloak yourself in mystique and a nice groove but at the end of the day you have to be barely more than a mediocre vocalist

I'm with you. I'm glad he's doing his things- but his music does nothing for me.

Liiving near Detroit, I Totally agree. My favorite Dwele moments are really on the "Slum Village" records. "Call Me" & "Dime Peice" are great examples. He was excellent as a hook man on those albums (ala Nate Dogg). For the most part, I really like "Subject" but his albums after that are kind of the same but never reaching "Subject". He's got a D'angelo vibe but he really can't go as deep as him. Also, J Dilla produced probably his best work and unfortunatly we lost Dilla. I think thats a big factor in the equation. As for the new album, I'll buy it in a couple of days. Even if it's just alright, I'll still support this Detroit artist. Big Chick

Oh man, everytime I see the name Dwele, I think about that show in 2010 in NYC at the Nokia Theatre, where he opened up for Mint Condition. Dwele's show was sooooo incredibly underwhelming, his band appeared to be asleep, the crowd was quiet. Then Mint Condition came after him and anniliated him. I was like, um Dwele who? after that.
I'm sure he's talented but his stage show needed work.
