So you know when you go on amazon.com and they bring up more shit so you can buy it? lol I bought 2 Johnny Taylor Greatest Hit and they recommened him. I bought this and this CD sounds great. Like his gritty voice like my faves Sam Cooke, Otis and Terence Trent D'arby. Anybody here like him? Well I bought this:

When I lived in the South during the 70s, his records were extremely popular.

My mom has some of his records. He's one of those jukebox/family reunion singers from where I'm from. They had jukeboxes in some of the restaurants and juke joints in my mom's hometown and his records were always in them.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

That song is how I got introduced to his music couple of years ago, via Cinnie and Andy.

Loved his Malaco period so much, I persued the releases that came out during his last album, and I loved ALL of them.

I have to ask though, knowing your disdain for slow jams, I was surprised to find you sing his praises lol

Not that surprised though, because the man could've sang the cuss words dictionary and it would still sound like honey and butter love drool

I love slow jams. Just very few after 1985 when they became the adult contemporary family friendly type. Before 1985 though when the majority of them had that sexy, sensual, bring a stranger home at 3 a.m. type feel, I love almost all of them.

You should hear Denise LaSalle's version of "Down Home Blues". She's like our local version of Millie Jackson. Check out the spoken intro lol ....

Too bad he's not that well known. Great vocals with great soul. Would like to see a Docu on him.

We used to play the crap out of this song back in '82.

1985. What an incredible coincidence. Isn't that the same year Nippy took the music world by storm? lol
