A white man doing Black disco. People need to fucking stop.

LOL it's funny how people wanna put a "color" behind a sound that everyone loved. But anyway... lol

I'm with smooth also about how "black music" has "changed" so much. We got a bigger history than what some are claiming HERE.

Lol that's all the media's doing. The public doesn't going around asking each other if we've heard the new Black music song or the new White music song. It's stupid to box something as broad as music in like that.

Exactly! The first time I ever heard the song "Magic", I thought it was Jamiroquai. When the DJ said it was Robin Thicke, I was shocked because all I had ever heard from him were those tired ass ballads. But I will say this, and if it pisses people off, I don't give a damn, lol but from what I've seen these days when people have showed me some good new music because Andy ain't gonna "search" for shit because he shouldn't have to....is that every single time something has actually sounded good and even remotely "black", it has come from white artists these days. Everything people have introduced to me from a black artist recently has been some old tired ass ballad or something with some sort of either damn shit hop element in it or trance. I don't want even a trace of that shit in it. What the hell is this, The Twilight Zone! White folks jamming underground and black folks making dull boring Lawrence Welk tempoed music! It's like role reversal. lol

Well to be quite honest the definition of "black music" has changed a lot over the years, so while funk is still black music, so is hip-hop. Black isn't just one specific sound. lol

Every group of people has had it's good and bad stereotypes. When it comes to black music, the stereotype has always been that it is much more rhythmic than white music. There has always been dull black music but for the most part, when the subject of black music came up, the first thing that came to mind was rhythm. You're exactly right, black music has changed a lot over the years because when the subject of black music is brought up nowadays, the LAST thing that comes to mind is rhythm. So for those offended with the old "all black folks have rhythm" stereotype, they should be damn happy now because that old stereotype has been shattered forever now. And then there's the old stereotype that "all black folks are criminals" but the little dumbasses don't have sense enough to try to shatter a horrible stereotype like that. Instead the idiots celebrate the bad stereotype and make it even worse.

I tell ya, black music nowadays is a white racist's dream come true. It's dull enough to entertain their rhythmless asses and at the same time they get to see a minstrel show. Talk about some stupid Uncle Toms, these little shit hoppers are the absolute definition of the word. They celebrate bad stereotypes of being a criminal but shatter good stereotypes of having rhythm. I guess next they'll be getting dick reduction surgeries by the masses to shatter that good stereotype too. Gotta kill off all the good stereotypes ya know and keep all the bad ones alive. The dumbasses. evillol

That's true. But every form it is these days is something DULL. It's the exact opposite of how it used to be. The "whitest" forms of music such as classical used to be the definition of the word "dull" but now it's black music that is the dullest music on the face of the earth. I agree nod It would be so cool if today's R&B artists had the same mindset that Jamiroquai has....screw all the current trends and hip-hop elements, and take it back to the Old School! Bring back the Chic-like basslines, the infectious hooks, the strings. We need a return to that type of sound.

Good idea. The problem is the only format that would embrace it doesn't which is

Urban/AC. Nobody is doing music the way we knew it in the 80's. Most of the people

who grew up on dance/funk have moved on. They are buying the newer artists i.e new

soul Anthony Hamilton. The old school artists pretty much know this too so a lot of

them are making songs for Urban/AC. Perfect example is the Barkays new song

Grown Folks. They know Move Your Boogie Body isn't gonna work in 2012 so if you

want to hear funk from these artists you better check their live shows. Teena Marie

before her death was making Urban/AC radio friendly songs for grown folks and

if the young wanted to jump on board it was all good. We were fortunate to get

a good old school R&B funk album from the Time/07 last year but unfortunately

we also saw how quickly it went from Sugar To Shit.

I wanna "disco" his wife.

His wife is fine as wine & getting all the juicy roles lately. I sat in front of her at an award show earlier this year & she was high as a kite. So high she accidentally hit me in the head..I smelled liquor on her.Hope that was all she was under the influence of. I will say she has a bubbly personality..She talked really bad about her husband(Who had just got arrested recently)..

Anywho. I'm really digging Thicke. He is a very soulful & gifted songwriter. His charisma was the glue that held that boring show "Duets" together. Lord knows boring John Legend didn't. Even though he is a cool laid back dude, he just didn't fit that show...I'm really into Thicke's new song "All Tied Up". It is hella sexy & gets the mood going...A Disco influence project would be very interesting from him..Looking forward to it....

Fuck searching for something. Never had to before and shouldn't have to now. That's the whole problem. The dull asses should be the ones having to search. If I'm going to search for something, it's going to be something old that I don't already have. At least I KNOW that's going to be good.

The Barkays jammed on into the 1990s when very few people were still getting off. War, Cameo, and Prince were the only other ones that still made good music into the 1990s. It took The Barkays a long time to sell out but they finally did.

As for that last album from The Time, I hated that shit. It's like they wanted to get funky but still had to sell out and ruin it with elements of today's music in it. Even a slightest hint of today's sound ruins it. It's not really hard to make a good album. Make an album that sounds as if the 1990s sound on up to today's sound was completely erased from our memory for the longtime fans and if some new fans like that sound, that's fine, and if they don't, well...fuck 'em.

I've listened to it and any elements of today's music is too much. When I listen to music, I listen to escape and have a good time. I don't want to hear any elements of today's sound to remind me that yes, music in general is still more fucked up that it has ever been in the history of music. That just spoils the whole mood while listening to it. It's like being at a party for an ex drug addict who has totally given up drugs and has moved on and somebody at the party just HAS to bring up the subject of drugs to depress him. lol

It has a retro feel but it's mixed with current elements which makes it feel fake and unauthentic. It sounds watered down. I didn't like my funk watered down with pop for crossover appeal back in the 1980s so I sure as hell don't like my music watered down with today's music which sounds even worse.

Jam and Lewis is part of today's sound and Morris has sung hooks on rap songs and had rappers on his Guaranteed & It's About Time albums, so it's not really unauthentic. razz

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Just curious...............what do u call what Mint Condition is doing?

I've only heard one Mint Condition song in the 1990's, it was a ballad. I've never heard anyone mention them except on this site.

What type of music do u listen 2?
