Dead Can Dance

Nathan and I saw them in Toronto this past Thursday. Incredible would be an understatement. We felt we were sharing a sacred space. The show trancends earthly description and left a profound imprint that has changed me. Nathan was able to get 2 set lists (yay). If you love this band you need to see them live at least once in your lifetime.

I love concert experiences like that.

Dead Can Dance is a band I should have been more into than I was. The albums I own are Into The Labyrinth and Spiritchaser which have a more worldbeat lean to them which I don't like all that much. But it has been several years since I listened to them. I know their earlier albums are more classical sounding, yes? The song "Cantara" is one of my favorites of the 80s.

All of their albums have a little bit of a different flavor. Their first self-titled album is awesome, but more straight goth-rock with their own kinda experimental take on that.

Best album IMO is "Within The Realm Of A Dying Sun", thats the album Cantara is on. Next best is "The Serpents Egg", which is just hauntingly beautiful, but I only play that when I'm depressed.

Gonna pick up the new one today to listen to before the show.

Change it one more time..

I've been a fan since the 80s. All their early albums are great, Within the Realm of a Dying Sun, The Serpent's Egg, Aion.. Lisa Gerrard vocal range is amazing. I recommend watching Baraka where some of their songs are used to acompany the incredible visuals.
