Nicki Minaj will join Mariah Carey as new 'American Idol' judge: report

The 'Starships' singer is reportedly set to be the latest face of Fox's hit singing competition show.

Pull up a chair, because Nicki Minaj may just be joining the judges' table over at "American Idol"!

The colorful female emcee, 29, is reportedly already set to be the latest addition to Fox's hit singing competition show, a source tells Us Weekly.

"I'm not sure the deal is completely done yet, but yes, she is definitely doing it," the source told Us. "A few more things to sign off on but it is happening."

Another source told the magazine that Minaj is "100% confirmed to judge 'American Idol.'"

As of now, reps for both the network and the singer have not commented on the speculation.

If the rumors are true, then Minaj will be adding to a high-caliber panel that already includes singing legend Mariah Carey and has names like Pharrell Williams and Nick Jonas up for consideration.

Previous judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven... announced that they were leaving the show earlier this summer, sending viewers into a frenzy wondering what musicians would be brought in to fill the void.

Carey announced her involvement in July, and since then, other names have been floated by the franchise, including Sean "Diddy" Combs, Adam Lambert, Miley Cyrus, Brad Paisley and Pink.

"What you've got to realize is you've got to create a panel that gels," show producer Nigel Lythgoe told E! News. "A panel that makes sense together. It's not just about three individuals."

The only remaining original member of the judges' table, Randy Jackson, will be reportedly moving into a more "mentoring role" on the show.

If this is true, this is probably the only situation in which I could see Mariah agreeing to appear with another woman as a judge Nicki got her first big guest appearance on Mariah's "Up Out My Face" track. Obviously, Mariah will be paid much more than Nicki, is the bigger name, has more hits and respect etc...unless Nicki suddenly starts thinking she's on Mariah level, in which case there WILL be a problem between the 2

I just think it's hilarious, because after Nicki performed on Idol this past season, she made a little quip towards JLo about joining her at the judges' table, and JLo didn't seem to take kindly to it

Whilst it is agreed that Paula and J.Lo aren't great, Paula has atleast helped nurture or advice or choreograph high profile artists in the past. And J.Lo actually has a personality.
