How the hell can essence do this? I thought it wasn't supposed to be released before next tuesday. I'm gonna only listen to In The Moment in it's entirety. I want to have some element of surprise when i buy it. Don't laugh at my funk

I listened to Inside the Moment. I love it. Essence soundstream is awful compared to Soul Tracks. Like i said i'm only gonna listen to that one until next tuesday. I'm wondering if i could pick the cd up after midnight from Walmart. Don't laugh at my funk

At first I thought "7" was average when it first came out, but now that I've been listening to it more and more, it has REALLY grown on me. It's definitely in the "top 4" of MC albums (I used to rank it last/near last but not anymore). It's such a good album.
As for the M@TSOL album, I will hold off and wait to listen to the album in full. No snippets for me. The only song I've heard thus far is "believe in us" which is nice. (video as well).

City Pages Interviews Mint's Ricky Kicnhen September 2012
City Pages: Your new album retains a certain warmth that's lost in the post-digital age of music. How do you always manage to recapture that sound? Ricky Kinchen: We pretty much go in and create whatever comes out of our hearts. I want to do everything that I'm feeling at that time. There was a lot that I was feeling at the time, relationship stuff, that poured out through the sessions.
CP: You're also known for your incredible showmanship in your live show. Do you find touring to be much different today than it was 20 years ago? RK: Yeah. People used to tour, like we did with Janet Jackson and Toni Braxton, for three to six months to a year. Nowadays, it's pretty much weekends, which I personally like because I like being at home. And if I get out to work two or three times a week, I'm satisfied with that because I get to live a normal life. I get to be home Monday through Thursday. I believe that's how Metallica are doing it right now.
CP: Speaking of touring, you've recently played several shows with Prince. What's made performing with him unique, considering you're all hometown boys playing around the country? RK: Hearing the crowd in the background, I definitely noticed that we were the loudest, or up there with Janelle Monae. That felt good, to be in front of his crowds playing on his stage. [Most folks] don't get to shake hands with that cat, you don't get to huddle with him — that doesn't happen for a lot of people every day, so we definitely appreciate it. He was like, "I want to come out to play guitar," and we were like, "Hell yeah, come up!" When he came up he was like, "When do I solo?" and we said, "Now!" It was an incredible thing. He's been nothing but cool and an inspiration, and a big part of why we're here in the state. He's a big part of what got this Minneapolis thing going; him and the Time were the reason I moved up here from Chicago.
CP: As one of R&B's most precise outfits, is it ever a challenge to work with outside producers to remix your songs? RK: You know, we don't really do a ton of remixes anymore like we used to. If someone took something and did a great job, that would be great. But a reason why our music still sounds the way it sounds is we pretty much produce a lot of our music. I work with four of the best songwriters and producers in the industry. That's why it's been consistent, because of those guys. It's an easy job, we just have to do two to three songs each, and we have an album.
CP: A few years ago you performed on Late Night with Conan O'Brien with another Twin Cities hero, Brother Ali, who also appears on the new album. How did you first link up? RK: Stokley [Williams] has known him for a while and they've been doing stuff here and there. We did Conan and The Late Late Show. Stoke and Jeff Allen had this incredible song about change ["649 Change"]. It was inspired by Jeff, who used to live in the house that he was raised in. He raised his son there — and now the house is a library. So, that's what sparked the idea. It's hard for him to even drive down that street. I thought Brother Ali would be a good choice to have on that song, I gave Stokley his number and he was in. He did the best verse, I don't even know how he came up with it. It was one of the most beautiful things that I had ever heard before.
CP: You've been outspoken about how Mint Condition is a democracy. When you're touring now, with both a new album and so many hits, is it ever a challenge to decide what goes into the set list? RK: Yeah, it's always. You're working with five people from five different neighborhoods and three different walks of life. I explain it as you have Good Times and you have theJeffersons and you have the Cosbys all in one band trying to make decisions, and it's rough. You got some guys that went to college and some street thugs all in one band. Everybody's at the same table. You got to respect everybody and hear what everybody has to say.

Anyone got their copy today. Just picked mine up after work. What's your thoughts on it? It sounds 3 times better in your car and on your home stereo. Right now my favorite is Slo Woman. Stokley gets off on the steel drum on this cut. Never Hurt Again is one of their more funkier grittier cuts in awhile. I'm still digesting some of the cd now as i speak because i had a project to do when i got home. I guess i was wrong about this Bobby Ross Avila cat. I never heard of him before and the pictures i saw of him on the internet appeared to be boy band photos. Don't laugh at my funk

Getting my copy Friday...haven't listened to the leaks or snippets! So still waiting. Their last album, 7... was beyond phenomenal, so this album should follow suit as all the others before. Check me out and add me on:

I've been pumping this joint 4 a week. Love it but I'm biased when I comes 2 mint. Some tracks seems like the vocals are low in the mix.

Got my copy on my lunch break yesterday. Still digesting it all but so far my favorite cuts are "Believe In Us" "What I Gotta Do" and "Nothin'". I think I was expecting the M Factory Horns to be more prominent but where they show up it sounds good. It would be unfair for me to say more until I truly give it some more listens so I am definately interested in what you other mintheads think about this release !

I absolutely LOVVVEEE "7".... This CD stayed in my car for months, with the kids and wife wanting to hear it over and over again. Definition Of A Band, Mint Factory, Luxury Brown and 7 are all tops for me!!!
I will be buying the new one on Friday...not sure if it can top "7" as far as enjoyment and attachment, but we'll see.

Don't know what's up with Amazon... The CD should have been here by now--hasn't even been shipped! Think I'll cancel the order and pick it up from the record store. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

On first listen, the new MC album doesn't have the snap and urgency of "7" but it has gems on it and the entire album is really good. So far, I love some songs and, more importantly, like the album as a whole. I would give "7" an A and "Music at the Speed of Life" a B+.
