Van Halen would be excellent. I'd record that and watch it later! It's kind of sad they have to go back so far to find credible acts for the Super Bowl now. They're running out of veteran acts to do it.

Not really. Carlos Santana, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Genesis, R.E.M., Sting, The Police are certainly viable acts to play the Halftime Show at the Super Bowl. Maybe the NFL are trying to reward veteran acts by booking them for a program with the biggest viewership on television: 100 million people. With the exception of the Black Eyed Peas, all of the acts have been Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame Inductees.

That's post Janet's scary black titty.

I think they should stick to having the older artist perform at halftime because they actually know how to you know, perform.

Plus they have memorable song.

The times over the past decade or so when they did have "current" artists, they're either completely forgettable like when NSYNC, Britney, Nelly, and Mary J. performed with Aerosmith, or unmitigated like the Black Eyed Peas, and everyone who performed with Madonna last year.

I mean, LMFAO??? REALLY?!?

I just think it's funny that Madonna was probably their biggest youth draw since Janet and she's been around since the 80's. The industry really isn't cultivating the kind of artists who deserve that Super Bowl slot anymore. They're not going to go with rappers(too risky) and Lady Gaga and Beyonce are probably the only two acts with enough star power but still probably too young in their eyes.

Santana would be great but he seems so laid back though, LOL smile

Anything other than Black Eyed Peas type crap is fine with me, that was just awful!

Genesis

Since Phil is retired because of health reasons and Peter has been wishy washy on reuniting, I don't see this happening. It's doubtful that the Superbowl organizers would accept Ray Wilson as the singer.

I wish David Bowie would make a comeback and do the Superbowl, that would certainly be incredible. A medley of "Golden Years", "Rebel Rebel", "Heroes" and "The Jean Genie"!

I'm surprised that Santana hasn't already been approached. He's a perfect choice.I would prefer to see the veteran artists,as opposed to the newer acts who haven't reached "legendary" status yet.

Santana is a good choice but they might be concerned with who else has to come and sing with him. He's legendary but the singers he's worked with recently aren't.

Lady Gaga possibly here area couple of factors

She is going to be releasing a new album this fall and when Gaga releases an album she is basically everywhere what better way to hype her new album then put it on superbowl.

She is a big time pop superstar and with networks they stick with what works Madonna gave them success last year. They are going to go fo marquee names that can attract youth viewership kids today might not know who Santana, Red Hot Chilli Peppers etc are.

I'd prefer to see him with just his band, and maybe only one guest star (Rob Thomas for "Smooth",perhaps).

She has an album out this year? Wow, when does this girl sleep? It seems like she has been touring for like three years straight. I'm too lazy to Google it but it seems like she tours a lot....hope she doesn't burn out. The pictures I've seen of her over the past year or so suggest she is run down by it all...

I doubt they would showcase anyone too affiliated with dance/pop since Madonna was the spectacle last year. Now I think they will choose someone very rock-oriented. My possible bets:

PETER GABRIEL

DEF LEPPARD

MOTLEY CRUE with KISS

JANE'S ADDICTION

GENESIS

QUEEN (with various lead singers: Lambert, Gaga, G. Michael, etc.)

what about Stevie Wonder? hmmm

other people who could be considered:

*Cher--- but maybe a few years from now, since Madonna was last year's performer.

*KC & The Sunshine Band--- don't laugh lol I like the idea of having a SuperBowl halftime show devoted to 70s disco. This band would put on a fun, lively show filled with 4 or 5 of their catchiest singles.

*Duran Duran---one of the biggest bands of the 80s,and they're still going strong

*Patti LaBelle

*Lionel Richie

Its not a good move to make the half time shows exclusively current artists when majority of the audience is older. Halftime is looked on as a honor to do and it would be a big mistake to turn it into ANY body doing it whose popular which I think is a very generic reason. They need to get acts that cater to everybody not just the young audience who I feel have alot of other avenues such as award shows, events where they can see current artists perform at any time if they wanted. If anything they could ft a current artist like they did with Madonna but to allow an entire halftime show be devoted to a current act......not happenin.

I would LOVE for Tina to do it but I think she has done it already. I would love if she do it again! More than likely they will get a rock act this time...

Current artists bring in younger women and gay men as viewers. Everyone else is going to watch anyway and most people get snacks and shit during half-time anyway.

I disagree with that some what. I think current acts bring in some viewership but its not the whole pie of the viewership.

Nobody didnt watch the Blackeyed peas when they did it and wasnt that the first time a younger act did the show alone??

Halftime USE to be something people look forward to because the acts were better but nowadays its harder to find acts because most of the good ones have already done it and I dont think an act can go more than one time.... So currently it isnt as important as it use to be.. people do other things during half time.

I dont think they should change that it has alot more to do than viewership specifically with how they have chose their acts in the past. They allow the past acts and legendary ones to shine and be honored during that time.

The LAST half time show I watched on T.V. the same time it aired was Prince....

lol come on,I know Lionel sucks nowadays but there was a time when he actually was a great artist!

He could do a 4-song medley of "Dancing On The Ceiling","Running With The Night","You Are" and "All Night Long (All Night" (featuring a special guest artist)

Or,he could really surprise folks and bring out the Commodores for a thrilling version of "Brick House",although I don't know if that song would be appropriate for that type of event? lol

I despise the song "Dancing On The Ceiling",but it might actually work at a huge event like the Super Bowl.

earlier,I mentioned Hall and Oates.I think they would be perfect.Their performance could consist of:

"Kiss On My List"

"You Make My Dreams"

"I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)"

"My Girl (a tribute to the Temptations)"

"ManEater"
