What MJ fans say for the most part about Janet is tame. Go mention her career on their forums and watch what they say. Awfully tame stuff. Don't get how any Janet fan would be too bothered by what they say about her. I would kill if someone would just say they're disappointed about my celeb or they can't sing or whatever.
While in comparison, I keep reading about Janet's fans make Elvis racist fans look tame in the things they say about MJ and his kids. For me that's just crazy. What do they have to be angry about when it comes to MJ and his kids?

Wow, this thread went waay left field. If Janet is a floozy for being in more than 3 relationships, than not only do I feel like a floozy myself but I don't want to even think about what this individual thinks about other celebrities who have been around the block a few times in their personal lives. Hell, Taylor Swift is like 22 years old and she's dated almost everybody...and has more than one kissoff song to prove it.

Tbqh I don't think that I've met one fanbase that wasn't less-than-savory. Not one. They are always eady to bash someone else in an instant in favor of their idols. I've been trying to hint at it very heavily throughout this thread, but I think it's time to just spell it out for you at this point.
When people like something and they get defensive about it. I mean anytime someone even mentions anything remotely negative about Janet Jackson you jump in immediately as if you are always there by the sidelines just...waiting. Then you proceed to talk about how much money she has and how famous she is like that is supposed to sway someone's opinion or make them feel stupid for even making their statements in the first place. This is what you do. So when I see you criticizing MJ fans for, basically, doing the same thing as you it comes off as you being a huge ass hypocrite.
For example, when I said that Janet Jackson isn't that big of an international star you proceeded to post many OLD ASS videos of her around the world doing interviews and concerts. Like, so fucking what? It doesn't change the truth of the matter which is that her strongest market is in the US, especially amongst "urban" aka black audiences. While record sales don't equate how good or bad the music is it does give a gauge of how popular someone is. If she's making poor sales in a certain part of the world she's not popular there. End of story. MJ was making way more sales internationally than he was in the US in the later part of his career which is why him and his team focused all of their efforts to those markets. Kylie Minogue way more popular outside of the US which is why she doesn't really come here too often to do promo for her albums aside from Fever which actually topped the charts here. This isn't about playing favorites it's about sales, $$$, and numbers. I don't know why Janet decided to slack off in that area back during the Superbowl scandal...but it was her decision. It could be that there wasn't enough interest to warrant her persuing those markets in the first place otherwise it wouldn't make any sense for the record company to just ignore them if there was. At that end of the day they are only interested in making $$$ and so is she since she has to pay back her advances and bills.
So I know it's hard to look at things clearly when you are head deep in your stan-ism, but please take a minute and think about ironic your rants/posts come off when you are criticizing other fans for being the same thing that you are...a fan.
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
First off, I never said that Janet is, today, as popular abroad as she was during her heyday, but for some people to act as though she has never been an international star is just ludicrous (i.e. the "old ass" videos that I posted which speak to the contrary. Oh, and by the way, that video of her Russian fans is NOT old, my dear. It was recent, as are the London premiere video, the Japan video, the Abu Dhabi pic, etc.). And, are you SERIOUS about her fanbase being mostly Urban? The audiences at her shows are like a rainbow of colors of ethnicities, and have been since 1990. She has Black fans AND White fans. She hasn't gotten much respect on pop music stations since the SB, but that in no way reflects on the demographic of people who are her fans. Open your eyes.
In closing, my "stan-ism", which clearly has gotten your panties in a bunch, in no way makes me think that Janet Jackson is untouchable, or a deity, or imperfect, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna sit back have a bunch of fairweather internet snarkers--who will jump on anything negative about Janet and fly away with it--constantly degrade/belittle her accomplishments. It's just NOT going to happen. Now, have a seat in EVERY chair in your house, apartment, dorm room, etc.

Gaaaawd we need to open up the blinds and let some light into this shade hole!
How left field did this thread turn??
As far as I'm concerned, MJ and Janet are great stars, great performers, and so on. And I'd like to remember them as close and loving. That's all I got to say on the matter.
Janet is a talented woman, and deserves respect in her own right.
But since I've been an MJ fan for longer, I'm with Seanman's line of thought. I do not think Michael's a diety. In fact, there are several decisions he made in life I don't agree with. But I still love and respect him as a person, and I sure as hell won't let one of you shade mongers or Jackson family kiss-asses belittle him or try in some way to drag up the same old garbage that plagued him in life, as if they have (or even had) any merit. They shouldn't even be points of conversation anymore.
Y'all need to take yo' shit elsewhere.

Afterelton.com just posted a countdown of the 10 Greatest Winners of MTV's "Best Female Video" Award:
1. Janet Jackson, "Love Will Never Do (Without You)"
I'm concluding this list with my favorite activity: commending a homosexual. Director Herb Ritts worked his signature Guess Jeans aestethic to transform Janet Jackson from a blazer-clad teenybopper to an ethereal, catwalking hottie. Every visual is a stunner: Janet's Mentadent grin is flawless, Antonio Sabato Jr. is unbeatable in his undershirt, and Djimon Hounsou's stunning physique is explored in intimate detail. It's sexy, it's commercial, and it's the moment when Janet proved her individual flair beyond the influence of her family and Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis.
2. Alanis Morissette, "Ironic"
We've already discusssed Alanis Morissette's merits as a gay icon, but the wise-beyond-her-yowls songstress is underrated in another key area: music video performance. From "Ironic" and "Hand in My Pocket" through "Thank U," "Unsent," and "Precious Illusions," she's a committed and vulnerable actress whose unpretentious screen presence sells her confessional message. "Ironic" is director Stephane Sednaoui's brilliant examination of one woman's hidden (or barely concealed?) selves as they enjoy the same rollicking car ride together. The concept was so good, Morissette again played multiple versions of herself in different jackets with her equally fabulous video for "You Learn."
3. Sinead O'Connor, "Noth...pares 2 U"
It's always bugged me that the gifted songwriter Sinead O'Connor's greatest (and only smash) hit was a Prince cover, but who can deny such a poignant and naked rendition? "Nothing Compares 2 U" contains one of the most pained vocals of the '90s, and the gorgeous video conveys her romantic alienation with contemplative moments, stone set pieces, and that icy closeup. And that climactic tear? That chilling moment of devastation? It's so moving, spiritual, and tragic that the Catholic church should install it as a new Station of the Cross. I consider it Generation X's "Girl with a Pearl Earring."
Paula Abdul is the rare case of a pop singer who is both an utter facsimile and a complete original. No bones about it, she was a post-Janet, post-Lisa Lisa, post-Pebbles, post-Jody Watley confection fabricated from their purrs and whines, yet she was also such a vaudevillian, Fame-y throwback that a video like "Straight Up" is fabulous thanks to her distinct talent: The editing and stark monochrome are iconic, but it's Paula's self-possessed, hyperkinetic sauciness that makes the edgy visuals so apropos. She was cutting edge -- a vibeological vamp with the guts to clack in tap shoes and serve up a weird Arsenio Hall cameo.
5. Lauryn Hill, "Doo Wop (That Thing)"
The plight of Lauryn Hill is an unpleasant one, but let's never forget to love her greatest and coolest achievement: this video, a slammin' and perfectly realized fusion of '60s and '90s soul and finger-waggin' tale-tellin'. The girl swayed, looking perfectly at home (and stylish) in both eras.
Madonna deserved Video of the Year for other efforts -- "Vogue," "Express Yourself," "Open Your Heart," take your pick -- but in "Ray of Light," her first and only Video of the Year clip and her third Female Video winner, she succeeded in mainstreaming her yogi-sanctioned ebullience with eye-popping, day-tripping visuals. "Ray of Light" is a sonically charged flipbook, and the ride was as much an adventure in old, "Sledgehammer"-type animation as it was the new Immaterial Girl's reinvention.
Hope Springs, a fine movie, nearly ruined Annie Lennox's "Why" for me. Under the wrong circumstances, the Diva track can sound maudlin or melodramatic. But when Lennox covers herelf in furs, maquillage, and jewels to trill its contemplative tones, every word feels right because she's an unflinchingly honest performer. The video is glorious and gorgeous, which are probably the best adjectives to describe Annie herself.
When I interviewed Lady Gaga in 2008, I was immediately impressed with her love of Madonna's Erotica days, when Madge tested and quite apparently enjoyed the boundaries of taste, carnality, and desire. Just two years later, Gaga turned in "Bad Romance," a creepy, throbbing, Rocky Horror-on-'roids explosions that recalls Madonna's wickedest dares. But make no mistake: The warped combination of haute couture and Wendy O. Williams flamethrower antics is pure Gaga.
9. k.d. lang, "Constant Craving"
Even for director Mark Romanek (who handled Michael and Janet Jackson's "Scream," Nine Inch Nails' "Closer," and Johnny Cash's "Hurt"), "Constant Craving" was a wild concept -- a dreamy reimagining of the premiere of Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot. The evocative cinematography is cool, but I personally relish the camera presence of the incomparable and emotive k.d.
10. Cyndi Lauper, "Girls Just Want to Have Fun"
She's so unusual, indeed -- Cyndi Lauper whipped her block into a swishy, she-bopping frenzy in "Girls Just Want to Have Fun," and while her punky chutzpah certainly warranted MTV award credibility, she deserved every award for out-snarling Elvis and offering killer pipes, to boot. Some MJ fans attempts to discredit Janet Jackson is weird and disturbing.

You’re a very spiteful and hateful person to bring up this thread again weeks later
You’re mad at the posts in the ‘Rhythm nation topic’ and want it generate more hate towards Janet.
It’s sickening and pretty clear who has the mental issues.

I think it's pretty hateful to turn a funny post before this one into accusing me of hating janet and I had to respond
and yes it upsets me that I can't talk about people without walking on eggshells, and anyways whether she has them or not, I don't care, it shouldn't make me or anyone for that matter like her less

You don’t have to walk on egg shells for me mate.
I’m merely observing that you’re not fooling me with your cunning and tactful behaviour on this forum. Why would you bring this thread up weeks after the last post was sent? Surely you read it before? You just thought it's time to do a little more shit stirring - something you've mastered on here!
I don’t know you to hate you but I hate everything you stand for as tunnel visioned stan who often initiates arguments and posts sly and backhanded remarks to provoke people.
Like you have done with this topic.
