BTW, as an aside, I just flashed back on watching Prince on AI. I kept waiting for him to bust out just a little with a little dance or a wail...but all the audience ended up with was him running a comb through his hair and letting the Twins pose... There was a pregnant pause from the audience for a moment from what I remember before they started clapping...as if they were waiting for more...which never came... All Prince did was tease... razz lol

Mariah Carey Wants Lenny Kravitz On 'Idol'

August 21st, 2012 4:49pm EDT StarPulse
Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey is lobbying American Idol producers to hire her rocker pal Lenny Kravitz to join her on the judging panel of the reality show instead of rapper Nicki Minaj.

New reports on Monday suggested rapper Minaj was close to signing a deal with TV bosses to help pick out aspiring singers on the upcoming 12th season of the program.

However, it appears Carey isn't too enthusiastic on the double female combination and she has proposed her own suggestions for the spare seat at the judge's table.

After hearing the Minaj gossip, the Heartbreaker hit-maker took to her Twitter.com blog and uploaded a photo of herself with Kravitz, writing, "@AmericanIdol What's going on? need the info!! What about this combo? if we could ever get him to do it!"

The American Woman rocker seemed more than interested and tweeted back, "@MariahCarey @AmericanIdol Girl, we've known each other since we were teenagers. How fun would that be?!"

The two friends are currently filming director Lee Daniels' new movie The Butler together, while they also co-starred in the filmmaker's 2009 hit Precious.

I don't know why Mariah would jump on this sinking ship anyway. I remember her name being one of the first to float around for X-Factor before Simon bagged Britney. Why would she turn that down?

whoa-forget AI, who else would love a collaboration of Mariah and Lenny? I'd love to hear him getting her a bit more rock for a change. That would sound hot!

well, lenny kravitz as a judge on AI would at least open the door(s) for aspiring rock bands.

plus his mother roxy roker was a television star on the 'jefferson's' back in the day. so lenny does have some behind the scene smarts. in his interviews he's very on point and articulate. imo it'd be a good choice. not to mention that the man is definite as far as being eye candy.

as far as mariah carey, musically she's got my respect. so best to just wait and see.

Well with the X-Factor didn't she just have her twins?

And now over a year later, I would choose Idol over X-Factor because even with it's fallen ratings, Idol still pulled in an average of 17 million viewers.

I expect X-Factor to get an obvious bump with Britney, but no way they pull in Idol's ratings.

No I'm talking about joining this season. Mariah, Janet, Whitney, they were all being named in late January/early February. Janet said she wasn't doing it and then Britney's name started coming up around the same time and the rest is history.

DARLING NICKI...OR NOT: The new lookAmerican Idol was all but set on bringing in Nicki Minaj as a judge, but now the producers and Foxare said to be getting cold feet because of Minaj’s recent run of last-minute cancellations, says I.B. Bad in his latest column, posting tomorrow morning. Mariah Carey reportedly doesn’t want her on the show, lobbying instead for her palLenny Kravitz on Twitter.

Alanis Morissette: “I Have Been in Conversations” forAmerican Idol

Is American Idol about to play host to the weirdest '90s mash-up ever?

Rocker Alanis Morissette confirms that she is in talks to sit next to '90s pop princess Mariah Carey at the judges table.

"Yes, I have been in conversations about it, and that's the degree to which I can share the info right now," Morissette toldCNN Tuesday."I live to mentor, so my heart is much more open to the idea of that than even 10 years ago when I, perhaps, wasn't in a position to be able to offer much advice, solicited or otherwise. [B]ut I love watching people and just getting really curious about what they want and what they need and what their goals are, and then I can support them. I would do it formally, for sure."

Morissette is a big departure for the flashier names that have been thrown around in recent days including Kanye West and Nicki Minaj, just to name a few. But no matter how much we all love the '90s, it's a little hard to picture Morissette — the then-queen of hard-edged and occasionally sexually explicit girl-power anthems — sitting next to Carey, the perennial, turtleneck-loving girl next door of the era. But then again, this is a show that put Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez together for not one but two seasons, so anything's possible, right?

Morissette, however, is no stranger to singing competition series. She dueted with Idol runner-upCrystal Bowersox on the 2010 American Idol season finale and also performed with The X Factorfinalist Josh Krajcik during the show's Season 1 performance finale. The 38-year-old most recently served as a guest mentor on Adam Levine's team on The Voice last season.

Morissette is set to release her eighth studio album, Havoc and Bright Lights, on Tuesday.

Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban Nearing 'American Idol' Deals

A source tells THR that the rapper and hitmaker is at the final phase of signing an $8 million contract with the Fox show. Country star Urban, meanwhile, seems to have undercut contender Brad Paisley.

Nicki Minaj is closing in on a rich deal to join American Idol as a judge for season 12, a source close to the Fox show tells The Hollywood Reporter. In addition, country star Keith Urban is nearing his own deal to join the panel.

Minaj and Urban have been in talks for weeks with Idol producers Fox, FremantleMedia and CORE Media Group's 19 Entertainment. THR first revealed last Friday that Idol wanted Minaj but the flamboyant rapper's Pepsi sponsorship was irking Idol partner Coke. Those issues apparently have been worked out, and Minaj will receive about $8 million to join the show with additional allowances for wardrobe, hair and makeup. Minaj could sign on the dotted line as soon as today or early next week, adds the source.

Urban, who told an Australian radio station that he was in talks to join Idol, has agreed to take a third seat for a salary of $3 million to $4 million, according to the source. Former country contender Brad Paisley apparently dropped out of the conversation because he wanted to match Minaj's pay scale, which was a nonstarter with Idol brass. As also previously reported by THR, the show is looking to cut costs where it can, from production to talent.

Even with Mariah Carey's reported $18 million payday, the show is keeping in line with previous salary costs. Bear in mind that Simon Cowell was paid a whopping $35 million a year by the time he gave up his judge seat after season 9.

As for what the new names would bring to the show, Minaj is a fresh face with a true rags-to-riches story whose radio track record is hard to beat. She's also known for her wild, sometimes unpredictable behavior and outrageous style that boasts multiple stage personalities, one of which is a British male (Cowell the hip-hop sequel?).

Urban, who is married to actress and fellow Aussie Nicole Kidman, is one of country music's biggest stars, both in the U.S. and around the world. Although throat problems have sidelined touring for the past couple of years, Urban has stayed busy working on new music for a future album and judging another singing competition show: Australia's The Voice. "I’m trying to make an album, and it’s strange how these opportunities all come in one big fell swoop," he said earlier this week.

The only question mark remains Randy Jackson, whose fate has not been decided. He might stay on as a fourth judge, or he might not, say sources. Idol producers are still talking with prospective judges for that fourth slot, and if they can find the right fit for the right price, Jackson could be shifted off the judges' panel for the first time in the show's history.

But as Carey's co-manager and an Idol loyalist from the start, Jackson still is likely to have a major role on the show, even if it's not as an official judge.

When contacted by THR, Fox and FremantleMedia had no comment. Reps for Minaj and Urban have not responded.
