well, here's the latest nikimin news:

Nicki Minaj Joins 'American Idol' as Judge

By Brian Anthony Hernandez | Mashable14 hrs ago

http://news.yahoo.com/nic...59226.html

Eccentric hip-hop star Nicki Minaj is reportedly American Idol's newest judge, alongside singer Mariah Carey for season 12.

The news comes after Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler and entertainer Jennifer Lopez left the judging panel in July. Us Weekly first reported the news on Monday, saying two sources exclusively confirmed Minaj's Idol role.

Her heavyweight digital presence should give a big social media boost to American Idol. Most recently, she teamed up with Pepsi to live stream a concert in which people tweeting about it would have the chance to see their messages featured on a digital billboard in New York City’s Times Square.

I know you don't actually have to have musical talent to judge it, because that's what we do here 24/7 and none of us can sing or play a lick.

But they couldn't couldn't find anyone better than Nicki Minaj?

lol as far as they're concerned, they have Mariah to fill the talent credibility of the judges. The third judge apparently hasn't been decided yet (Randy Jackson's status is up in the air), and they're mostly using Minaj because she's hot right now and can bring in the younger viewers. Cowell did the same thing by hiring Shitney and Lovado on X-Factor. At least AI will have 1 good judge. X-Factor...well lol

So if Nicki really is going to be a judge on this show....they need to pull the plug on this show and let it die a quick death instead of making the public suffer thru watching it die a long, drawn out death. This series should have ended years ago, but instead the PTB kept it going and the show got more ridiculous and worthless w/each passing year. When the main objective of a talent show shifts to trying to sign the biggest or most outrageous celebrity jugde instead of finding unknown talented singers....its time to end the series! This show has lost its focus. AI has been on life support for years, now its time to pull the plug on this waste of television.

EXCLUSIVE: 'American Idol' Judges NOT A Done Deal -- and Mariah Carey is PISSED

Nicki Minaj may well become a judge on "American Idol," but it will be at the expense of Mariah Carey, who we're told hung up the phone when she was told Nicki was the top candidate.Sources connected with "Idol" tell TMZ ... Mariah was led to believe she would be the only woman on the judge's panel. Choosing Nicki would not only crush that expectation, it would add insult to injury because Nicki (29) is a lot younger than Mariah (42).As for the composition of the judge's panel, we're told by no means is it a done deal. There are 2 scenarios being played out. First, it's unclear if Randy Jackson will come back as a judge or a mentor. If he leaves the judge's panel, there will be another spot to fill. The second scenario ... we're told some of the honchos believe it's a mistake to have 2 women and a man on the panel, and a 4th male judge would be necessary. As for who's still in the running, we're told Brad Paisley, Keith Urban and Enrique Iglesias are leading the pack. And there's one other thing.

Sources connected with the show say they're worried ... if the judge's end up being Mariah, Nicki and Randy ... middle America might not welcome the blackout.

American Idol Nervous About Hiring All Black Judges Panel

Clearly the show’s ratings are falling, so wouldn’t it make sense to try something new? Maybe having an all Black judges panel would give people of color more reason to watch.

Do you think Idol’s panel would benefit from some color?

The difference is we are all voicing our opinions about people who already have music careers. Niki will be judging people who are seeking careers in music. She's not a singer. Her so-called "advice" can cost an otherwise talented singer a shot at a career.

They are really taking a huge ratings risk with an all african-american panel. It can really go either way. Unfortunately, if the lineup is Mimi, Nicki and Randy, I honestly don't see it lasting for more than one season.sad

EXCLUSIVE: Kanye West In 'American Idol' Talks

Kanye West is negotiating with producers to become an "American Idol" judge ... TMZ has learned.Sources close to the production tell TMZ, "Idol" honchos reached out to Kanye recently about filling one of the open judging spots ... and Kanye expressed interest. But that doesn't mean he's on board -- we're told Yeezy is still unsure about accepting the gig. The way it was put to us ... "He's on the fence," because he's not sure if "A.I." is in his wheelhouse. And there's another big hang up -- cash. Informed sources tell TMZ ... "Idol" would "at least match Mariah's salary" -- a cool $18 mil a year. It looks like Nicki Minaj is either close to signing a deal or has signed one to become a judge, but we're told producers may well add a 4th judge. As we reported, the frontrunners are Keith Urban, Brad Paisley and Enrique Iglesias, but Kanye would clearly trump them all.Calls to Kanye's camp were not returned.

It's "Middle America" who fucked up the voting of the show in the first place. Before they really got into it, the show was fine and had mostly good winners. For the last 5 years we've had shit winners and it's their fault. I hope Mariah and Nicki attract a different fanbase.

Didn't the biggest deomographic for AI in the years it first started used to be late teens-early twenties? That must have really changed--unless I misunderstood the biggest audience when I used to watch it...

All the Idol winners with the exception of Lee come from below the Mason Dixon Line. It's the reason why southeners and southwestern contestants always do well. The producers figured this out a long time ago which is why it's in their interest to keep one in the competition for as long as possible.

And yes Idol is getting older and older. The average viewers is now 40.

http://latimesblogs.latim...dol-m.html

Oh, no! Is "American Idol" getting ... middle-aged?

Fox's singing competition returned for its eighth season Tuesday with a total audience of 30.4 million viewers, or a 9% decline compared with last year's launch, according to Nielsen Media Research.

But a more arresting detail is buried within the numbers. Tuesday's audience was the oldest ever for an "Idol" season opener, with a median age of 40.3 years. That's quite a bit older than the "Idol" contestants, who are all in their teens or 20s.

"Idol" has been "aging up," as they say in the TV business, every year. The series premiere, back in June 2002, had a median viewer age of 29.5. By the Season 4 opener, in January 2005, the median viewer was 35. Last year, the figure had crept up to 38.2.

This matters because young people tend to drive entertainment trends and fads in this country, and if they're exiting a show such as "Idol," the show may finally be beginning to lose its grip on pop culture. Also, the age question presents a thorny issue for the show's producers, with the generational disconnect between the performers and the audience already evident. Last year, teenager David Archuleta and other contestants admitted to sketchy familiarity with some songs that are baby boomer touchstones, including those of an obscure British band called the Beatles.

All this may help explain the producers' decision this season to hire a fourth judge, Kara DioGuardi, who happens to be the youngest of the panel at age 38. Luckily for "Idol," its median viewer is still younger than Paula Abdul (46), Simon Cowell (49) or Randy Jackson (52).
