Bobby was interviewed on that Mike DVD I mentioned in the J5 new CD thread. So was Smokey Robinson and Russell Thompkins from The Stylistics. Percy Sledge was on it too for some reason. I didn't know Percy was still alive and not sure how he's related to the J5 or Mike. Did they open up for him? You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton | |

Not sure about Percy either. The J5 probably opened up for him. They opened up for everyone in the soul market circa late 1967 to early 1969. PRINCE: Always and Forever

Ronnie Rancifer was on the DVD as well. I didn't know he was with the group until 1977. You know what's crazy, he's actually credited as a songwriter on two J5 era tracks. Jermaine's Come Into My Life and I Am Love.

That's weird, since Motown refused to let the brothers write. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B.
