Natalie “The Floacist” Releases New Music; Calls Marsha Ambrosius A ‘Sell-Out’ Who Sold Herself For A Deal

FLoetry 2

Let’s be real, we all loved Floetry. We all longed for the next track, the next video and quite honestly, to this very day ‘Say Yes’ still ranks high on my favorites list.

Natalie Stewart aka The Floacist

Until recently, Natalie Stewart also known as “ The Floacist” has remained quiet about their split despite remarks made in the past from her former group member, Marsha Ambrosius. In 2008, Marsha admitted to leaving the group in order to pursue a solo career under the direction of Dr. Dre at Aftermath. In 2010, Marsha did an interview with the then Honey Magazine, where she stated that it was Natalie who actually left the group first.

Yeah, it will be missed. I miss it….People were pretty upset with the demise of Floetry when Nat left the group suddenly. As human beings, we forget sometimes that even though [we] musicians do what we do and we’re passionate about it, it’s still human situations that you face. Nat was going through a difficult time in her life and as her friend, I could only be there for her as much as she wanted me to. Being pushed away and unable to help was breaking my heart. I couldn’t continue on like that.

During a later interview last year, Marsha commented further revealing that her decision to finally quit the group left a bad taste in Natalie’s mouth, creating a large amount of tension between the two.

For Nat and myself, it didn’t end on good terms but as damn near family members—we’re like sisters—you go through things in life where you make your own decisions. We grew up into individuals and when people make decisions about what they want to do in life, you allow them to do so. That’s the right thing to do. There’s no love lost whatsoever. I wish her the best in everything that she does.

Over the years, Marsha has seen a significant amount of success as a solo artist after striking it big with her single “Far Away”. Now, The Floacist is ready to make her re-entry back into the scene and for the first time in six years has offered her side of what really happened between the two ladies.

“This is the first Floetry album, after a six year split, and Marsha has been doing a lot of excessive talking during that time, all of which has gone unanswered by myself. My silence could have been confusing to the fans, so I wanted to address the split, at the right time, in the correct medium,” she explains. “It was important for me to comment truthfully on the main issue…

Marsha left Floetry, after so much joint success and foundation building, to join Aftermath Records, with no assurance of an album release. Ultimately, holding Floetry to ransom, to pursue a possibility of ‘mainstream’ success and all that was gained, was whatever they would’ve put into her pocket, and a mixtape release entitled ‘Neo Soul is Dead’. This to me is the perfect example of someone selling out, or selling their soul.”

The Floacist moves on from the topic, describing her method for music creation and it’s purpose in her life. Excited about her new album, Floetry Re: Birth, Floetry also speaks about being joined by South African recording artist Thandiswa for the re-creation of the Floetry album.

“I create with intention, not expectation, so there isn’t a set outcome that is anticipated. Ultimately, this album is the confirmation that Floetry has been reborn. It is produced with real instruments and real musicians ultimately creating a true musical experience.”

On Thandiswa:

“’Ingoma,’ was the first song of Thandiswa’s that made it to my ear, and it stayed on repeat…literally! Thandiswa is an artist that I would love to create an entire album with and tour the world! She is dynamic, engaging, spiritually aware and awake. Politically and socially she is a responsible artist, who cares about what she creates and the purpose of creativity. In other words…she is my kind of people!!

Like Chante Moore, Natalie is Bitter.

At some point Marsha was gonna be courted to drop the dead weight and go solo, and Natalie isnt telling what really happened to why she pushed Marsha away.

All the singles that where released by Floetry were Marsha on lead vocals, and with Natalie with an ad lib here and there.

Well here is my take.... I am a fan of Marsha/ Floetry/Natalie and I feel where she is coming from. I dont know why people are hating on Natalie. She NEVER talks bad about Marsha and I believe there are two sides to a story. Marsha has implied in alot of interviews that her and Natalie just wanted to do solo projects which is why Floetry broke up and never was really clear about what really happened. I think to a degree there is some truth to what Natalie is saying. I exactly remember when that Neo Soul is Dead single came out, in fact there was a thread about it here and I really did not like it and although I do like Marsha, NONE of her solo efforts comes close to what she did with Natalie, The Floetry.

Her voice is more suited for Neo Soul than R&B but still a fan.

I agree with you. Though I liked some of Floetry's stuff, I never bought any of their albums, but when I heard Marsha's solo stuff, somehow, I've just never been able to get into it. I've tried and wanted to get into it. And hearing her live the times I did when she performed on award shows, talk shows, etc. I haven't been that impressed with her...at least not like how I thought she was when she was with Floetry.

That's not to say that I feel like she shouldn't had gone solo, I think it would had been inevitable but the type of direction she went in isn't favorable to me. However, I think many others loved her solo effort, but to me, I've heard better.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

There's nothing wrong with growing in different directions as a musician, and frankly, as much as I enjoyed Floetry during it's heyday, after a point it did have a limited appeal for me with the spoken word on top of every track. I think (and have personally witnessed) that realistically, when you are a working musician with an aim to maintain the longevity that is necessary to have an actual career in that industry, regardless of genre, you will have different phases and eras on your artistic path that will require you to add or take away certain things as necessary in order to keep moving forward, keep eating, and basically survive. If they were no longer the right fit for one another, then so be it- and now that she has spoken publicly on the issue I hope she has gotten it out of her system (which was well within her rights as an artist), and can move on, doing the type of project she desires to do, while freely allowing Ambrosius to do the type of projects best fitting for her. butterfly

Marsha wanted that money. She knew what she and Natalie was selling was not gonna fly after a certain period. I understand Natalie's frustration but it was doomed IMHO.

Well Floetry only did 2 studio albums so it's not like they had a huge

catalog of hits for fans to tire of and their were no huge singles off

the second album so i can't even see what they were beefing over

other than the fact Marsha wanted to go solo. I like them better

as a duo versus Marsha solo effort.

"Soul" describes her feelings after the departure of Marsha. The track has a nice groove.
