The Complete Recordings 1972-1982 will present all eight of the band’s studio albums, from Roxy Music to Avalon, each digitally remastered and expanded with a host of non-LP B-sides and remixes, 12 of which are making their debut on CD.

This makes a great two-fer. I was hoping for "Modern Heart" and "How Bout Us" as a twofer but they are releasing the latter as a single CD. Which I thought was unnecessary since the only bonus tracks available are 7" versions of the title track and "Im On Fire".

I'm really excited about this set I have Modern Heart on vinyl already,but I could use a good CD upgrade.It's a great album featuring their finest single "Try Again".I never had the Woman In Flames album but I love the first single "Off And On Love".Their music has been out of print,or very hard to find,for years.I'm glad to see that their catalog is finally getting the care and attention it deserves.

As for How Bout Us...they should have just placed it in this set and made this a 2-CD set,similiar to the Con Funk Shun 3-album compilation which contains three of their early-80s albums spread across two discs.

HELLS, yeah! Did u ever hear Pauli Carmen's two solo albums (after Champaign,) Dave, "Dial My Number" and "It's Time." "Dial" featured production from The System and I belive "Time" featured production from Evan Rogers and Carl Sturken. Pretty bangin' shit!

Is that irritating? Don't understand why BBR would want to flood the market like that. FTG has never released a title that was already released by BBR. But, BBR duplicates FTG titles on a regular basis.

Btw the Melba Moore cd with "This is It " from FTG also sound very good.

Thanks for the info! I ordered my copy from dustygroooves.com yesterday. I figured I'd take a chance that the remastering was improved from past reissues. And , like you said, the price was a lot more reasonable than most Japan reissues. I can't wait to finally hear these tracks the way they are supposed to be heard!

It's irritating and kinda hilarious when they come out with remasters around the same time In this case,I think I will go with BBR's reissue.They always have excellent liner notes.

This is the first ever expanded CD release of Surfaces debut 1986 self titled album, includes 8 Bonus tracks and is remastered from the original mastertapes
In 1987, the group released their self-titled debut album which featured 'Happy' which hit #2 on the R&B charts, and 'Lately' which hit #8.
Their follow-up album, 2nd Wave, was released in 1989 and packed some of the group's biggest hits. 'I Missed' reached #3 on the R&B charts, 'Closer Than Friends' was the group's first #1 hit, topping the R&B charts for two weeks, and 'Can We Spend Some Time' which reached #5 on the R&B charts. The album featured two other #1 R&B hits, 'You Are My Everything' which topped the charts for two weeks and the album's biggest hit, 'Shower Me With Your Love' which went gold, reached #1 on the R&B charts and #5 on the Hot 100. Thanks to the album's wealth of hits, it managed to go platinum.
In 1986, Jackson met with a friend Brian Simpson and recorded a demo tape of a track he had written, 'The First Time.' He believed it to be a hit and hired a recording studio to get the best professional conditions for the track. AS the first single for the group's third album, 3 Deep in 1991, Jackson was right. The song was a big hit, going gold and becoming the group's biggest hit to date. It topped both the R&B and pop charts. The album continued on with 'All I Want Is You' which reached #8 on the R&B charts and helped the album go gold.

Bernard Jackson moved from Stamford, Connecticut, to New York to pursue a music career. While in New York, his godfather said Jackson should contact his nephew David Townsend who had been a guitarist with The Isley Brothers. The Isleys produced their band Sunrize with David and drummer / writer Everett Collins and long time friend Tony Herbert (bass) from David's high school in Englewood, N.J. David Townsend was formerly in a L.A. 70s band, and met David Conley. Conley,Townsend and Collins started writing back in New Jersey and when they met Jackson, they reformed "Surface" formerly Karen Copeland and Conley and this time Lead vocalist / writer Bernard Jackson would become the new Vocalist and frontman band.
They then became resident songwriters for EMI and wrote New Edition's "Let's Be Friends" and Sister Sledge's "You're So Fine." Encouraged by this success, the group called themselves Surface and began recording their own material, releasing several Post-disco/early-80s-style tracks under the name. They would find moderate success in the UK with their singles "Falling in Love" in 1983 and "When Your Ex Wants You Back" in 1984 (according to the Allmusic, "Falling in Love" also cracked the U.S. R&B chart, peaking at #84). With a sound more reminiscent of Kashif and related early 1980s soul groups, these early singles contrast significantly with the smoother, ballad-style material that would later make the group successful in the U.S.

^^ I love this Surface album!! I had the cassette in 1987 and I literally wore it out Had to buy another copy.The funny thing is...."Happy" was the big hit single on this album,but that song is not the reason why I bought the album.I was more impressed with the songs "Let's Try Again" and the hauntingly hypnotic "We're All Searching".

Also like the song "Lady Wants A Man",the best uptempo track here.

A really great album.The other two albums were also reissued awhile back,but I only want this one.
