Dr. Dre Gives Update on N.W.A. Biopic

August 15, 2012

Looks like the long-awaited N.W.A. biopic is really happening. Dr. Dre tweeted about the project, which was announced in 2010, sharing a photo of himself and director F. Gary Gray hanging out on what appears to be a movie set.

"Dre & F Gary Gray - The NWA Movie kicks off the collaboration! Expect more incredible projects from this powerhouse duo," Dre tweeted along with his photo.

The highly-anticipated N.W.A. film project focuses on the rise and fall of the Compton crew, featuring Dre, Ice Cube and the late Eazy-E.

Cube told MTV back in March that a search was underway for the right director, and it seems F. Gary Gray came out on top. Gray worked with Cube on Friday, and in addition to directing music videos, he took the reins of Set It Off, The Negotiator and the remake of The Italian Job.

Good...Ruthless-Death Row was a strange and wild time. This sounds very interesting and it's a good time to revisit that era. I just hope they don't sugarcoat matters.

I'm interested in how they plan on dealing w/ the matters of Eazy and Jerry Heller tho! wink

I doubt if Gray will sugarcoat material. That is not his style.

Oh boy. Don't really know how I feel about this. Who's going to play Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and Eazy-E?

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I hope some way Jerry Heller is involved which he has a right to be since he did manage them at one time regardless of what happened and also co found Ruthless Records....

Biopics are a rather touchy thing when it comes to accuracy especially when ALL the members are not there to give their viewpoint.

I wonder how they are going to depict Eazy since both Dre and Cube had a fallen out with him confused he was my favorite out of all of them. R.I.P. Eazy rose and then Cube second.

and what about DJ Yella and MC Ren.. they NEED to be involved as well...

I dont feel like this is going to be 100% accurate since Dre is in the drivers seat I highly doubt he would depict himself on screen wearing make up and wearing disco clothes and making disco music before emerging with NWA.

Yeah I doubt that too. I'm actually looking forward to this. I hope they capture the impact they made for the times because it was huge. At least I can have the peace of mind knowing that they got a credible director for the film. There's plenty of ground to cover in this story. biggrin

What's the likelihood that the film will look at Dre's tenure in World Class Wrecking Cru? wink

1st of all Shout out 2 The Worlds Most Dangerous Group N.W.A and R.I.P 2 Eazy-E 4 having the vision 4 1 of My favorite groups of all time no matter what genre. NWA opened doors 2 u being able 2 say whatever u want 2 not be afraid of censorSHIT. Ironically it was this group among a few other acts back in the late 80's Ice T, Too $hort, 2 Live Crew, etc that were being banned and censored.

That is when Hip Hop music was bold experimental exciting not like that corny crap music it is 2day.

I find it funny the FBI wrote NWA a letter about a song they wrote and produce called F*ck The Police which if u listen is about the frustrations of minorities especially Hispanic and African American males in the inner city and the harrassment and brutality the K.K.Kops displayed everyday and the song is relevant 2 this very day as I am typing this.

I am a huge NWA fan i wish things would have worked out 4 all of them 2gether but all did work out just on a solo tip from most of the group. Eazy -E before he died was hoping 2 get the group back 2gether 4 1 more album. Ice Cube was down M.C.Ren Yella all were down but Dre was the hold up as usual. Eazy did produce another Hip Hop group that took the rap world by storm when they came on the scene and that group is Bone Thugs N Harmony.

Cube went on 2 make classic solo albums from AmeriKKKaz Most Wanted 2 Death Cerificate 2 name a few, classic jams like Good Day 2 Why We Thugs, also has had a hand in making great movies from Boyz N The Hood to Friday to producing hit movies and t.v. shows.

Dr.Dre has been putn it down since NWA making classic albums since Straight Outta Compton to the D.O.C's "No 1 can do it better" to EFIL4ZAGGIN to the Hip Hop classic the Chronic , Doggy Style with Snoop, Cali4inia Love with 2pac, working with Em, to 50 Cent , to Game to now Kendrick Lamar. U r talking almost 25 yrs of making classic Hip Hop music.

I hope this movie works and is on the real not some Disney flick, show the good, bad. and ugly of how it all went down include the Jerry Heller part it's part of NWA without his business sense no 1 would have heard of NWA beyond LA. I hope MC Ren and Yella are involved as well or it will be FAKE !! I really enjoyed Notorious the movie about B.I.G so I hope we can get this story on the big screen with all the realness NWA brought 2 music. Were they real Gangsters? No not even Eazy was a hardcore Gangster but he was the most street cred related of them all. That aside NWA and is still 2 this day 1 of the most Ground breaking innovative acts that has ever made music if RUN-D.M.C were the Beatles of Hip Hop then NWA are the Rolling Stones.

NWA The Muthu-F*ck'n Saga Continues!!!
