i don't get tv1, so i missed this. this thread, however, is making me wish i had it!
i remember at the time someone told me NOT to get their cd b/c "tennessee" wasn't the same song as you hear on the radio, so i didn't wind up getting it. about 7 years later, i was temping at a music company and got a free compilation of their greatest hits, which had the radio version of the song so i was happy. when i learned all the words to "tennessee", i noticed that they named checked dyersburg, tn, and the surrounding area which is where speech(?) "walked the ground my forefathers walked, climbed the trees my forefathers swung from", and that's where my grandparents and ancestors are from as well. that made me like the song more!
i thought they had a positive vibe going on. i could relate to the lyrics of 'people everyday'. but it sounds like speech could take his own advice from that song, and behave like an "african" instead of "n****". i mean c'mon - 90/10???? who the hell does that????
