It saddens me to see this pic!, Lauryn now has a mugshot...

Should have paid those damn taxes shrug

I have high suspicion she will for sure face jail time.

This is such bullshit.

The threat of imprisonment for keeping the wealth you earned? If I held a gun to you or threatened physical harm unless you give me money, I'd go to jail.

Never let your government get away with anything YOU can't get away with.

is she still signed to Sony Records? Maybe she could present a new album to them, and ask for an advance? hmmm that money could be used to pay the IRS.Time isn't on her side, she's gotta do something SOON.

I don't think any record company wants to deal with her. If she was a man, maybe, but women get less slack in these sitches.

I wouldn't go that far. Both genders of artists get it equally bad.

If she still is on contract with Sony, I certainly don't think that she would be interested in giving them an album of original material, given the craziness she went through with them during the whole MTV Unplugged 2.0 fiasco. Sure, she could ask for an advance, but I don't think she's invested in the record industry at all nowadays. You would think that since she is now more invested in doing shows, she would be cramming in some dough. I guess that's not the case.

This is very sad.

Maybe she should hit up her Baby Daddy for some child support money and that could help pay down some of her tax debt.

what craziness was that? don't know the story here. is it something to do with her or them trying to pass off the extremely dull and tuneless Unplugged 2.0 as an album?

Both Lauryn and Sony were on some crazy stuff. It seemed as if Sony was pressuring her to give them a new studio album with all new original material, especially after the long-running, monumental success of Miseducation. Lauryn started falling out of the public eye around 2001 and there was a big hoopla around her whereabouts and new projects. There were rumors about how she was supposed to be involved in a Bob Marley biopic and recording new music as well as producing music for other artists. Reluctantly, she returned with MTV Unplugged 2.0, which caused clashes with both Hill and Sony because of its content and unfulfilled success. Before the release of Unplugged, she went on an imfamous tangent about the demonic side of record business during a 2001 Essence Magazine interview:

People need to understand that the Lauryn Hill they were exposed to in the beginning was all that was allowed in that arena at that time…I had to step away when I realized that for the sake of the machine, I was being way too compromised. I felt uncomfortable about having to smile in someone's face when I really didn't like them or even know them well enough to like them. For two or three years I was away from all social interaction. It was a very introspective time because I had to confront my fears and master every demonic thought about inferiority, about insecurity or the fear of being black, young and gifted in this western culture.

I agree! Her ego is out of control too. She did one great album-- not mindblowing but great. She acts like she's the first artist to have to compromise herself...lol And she never talks about anything but herself.

I hope she goes to prison and then Sony releases an album of outtakes, before dropping her from the contract.

I agree nod it's like she's trapped inside her own, crazy, sheltered world...unable to relate to those outside of it.Fame can sometimes do this to people who aren't strong enough to deal with it.

My band and Lauryn share the same management company. There's a lot I know, but can't say without potentially damaging other relationships.

I'll just say...... there have been times where everything has been put in place for Lauryn. Including a full plan for an album release, promotional schedule, world tours. Everything. And she's agreed to them. And then it always falls apart. Things get made more difficult and more complicated than they have to be.

She's a difficult person to deal with, I guess. And it's hard to lock down guarantees from her. Even plans she comes up with herself. She operates according to her own rules, which is part of what makes her a great artist. But it also makes it very difficult for people to work with her.

I can say this without potentially giving a damn.....SHE'S SCARED. Fear can be a very paralyzing thing (if you let it).

It's a shame because she could really contribute more if she was willing to do it for music's sake considering how much of a reputation she gets for her music. I can't say that Lauryn doesn't deserve some of the blame for her downfall even if she fears this government which I can understand to some degree, but yeah.
