I wonder does the original mix of the Off The Wall album still exist. It's on the very first pressing which had the old orange target Epic label, which is very rare. It was soon remixed, and this is what is on the blue/black label that Epic changed to around that time, and all of the other pressings.
In Argentina, some J5 records were on the Rare Earth label, not the main Motown one.

Actually there are still original versions of Off The Wall that still exist both on vinyl and CD. You may need to find the very first Japan-for-US or Japan-for-Europe CDs that were pressed with the original album cover with Michael. The original versions of the album also contained original mixes of "Rock With You," "Workin' Day and Night," and "Get On The Floor." Check me out and add me on:

I didn't know the original mix was put on CD, since by the time CDs came out, the 2nd mix of the album was the known version. I wonder how that happened. There's no apparent idea, but everyone knows that the early CD and LP pressings contain the original mixes of "Rock With You" and "Get On The Floor", which Michael apparently disliked and replaced them with alternate mixes which are now the standard mixes. The alternate mix of the former is the long version of the single mix. I guess Japan had the master tapes with the original mixes. All current CDs and second pressings of the vinyl LP have the remixes. The only way to obtain the original mixes on CD is by hunting down a early Japanese pressing from 1983 and copies of those will run you at least $200 bucks.

Can anybody say what the main differences between the early and late mixes of these tracks are (besides the length)? Please??
Thanx

I gotta laugh at Amazon's fluctuating prices. Their products will go up or down in price on any given day. For what reason, I dont know. The price for this set has now dropped to $31.53 MJ L.O.V.E: https://www.facebook.com/...689&type=2 / YOUTUBE: http://www.youtube.com/us...nderSilent

The most obvious difference with "Rock With You" is the absence of the handclaps that were used in the more popular reworked version and music video.
"Get On The Floor" has more bass reverb and thump... Check me out and add me on:

If Stevie owns the tapes, that's not likely to happen. I wonder if they're part of the deal that Stevie has been rumored to have in that they're supposed to be destroyed. If they put one track Buttercup on a previous compilation, then it shoudln't be that hard to get the others. I think they are waiting for the right time or will release them one by one on seperate compilations.
Motown still has over 150+ unreleased Jackson songs. PRINCE: Always and Forever

I heard that Stevie approved Buttercup. Don't know if that's true or not. If Motown owns the recordings, then I don't think they would have to get permission from Stevie. They did that with many of their classic era groups. Motown charged the acts whether or not they actually released the songs. In Detroit, it's been said the studio was recording 24 hours a day. I'm not sure how Stevie and Motown's deal works? I think Stevie owns his master recording with Motown, Motown is just an outlet for him to release his music. But I'm not sure if they need his permision to release his recordings he owns under his publishing?
In my booklet, it doesn't mention Buttercup is from Stevie's personal stash or whatever. It states it's taken from the original two-track masters. But on the alternate version of ABC, it does say it's from Deke Richards.
In that case, how does his songs for coutntless other artist appear on various comps like Rufus/Chaka Khan's Tell Me Something or Jermaine's Let's Get Serious among others? PRINCE: Always and Forever

Those songs are already released and Rufus is on another label. Songwriting and master recordings are not the same thing. It's been said that Motown can't release any of his unreleased tracks starting around 1971 and that any unreleased songs and demos are to be destroyed upon his death. I don't think that includes other acts, but I've heard that Stevie might have control of the masters he did with the J5. If he does, then Motown has to get his permission. If not, they don't. I wonder if this J-5 release can escape the mess that is going on with the rest of the MJ's legacy and family... I certainly hope so. All I want is to hear these songs for the first time. Buttercup was supposed to be the 1st single from that Stevie produced album. So I would have to think that might be the strongest track of the bunch.
But yeah, I would love to hear the rest.

The Jackson 5 burst on the music scene like a ray of sunshine in late 1969, reeling off four consecutive No. 1 hits and inspiring worldwide Jacksonmania. They also recorded constantly, and a treasure trove of newly discovered, previously unreleased recordings by Michael, Jermaine, Jackie, Marlon and Tito are being released for the first time on Come And Get It: The Rare Pearls (Motown/Hip-oSelect/UMe), available September 18, 2012. Produced by Deke Richards, leader of “The Corporation™,” the Jackson 5’s original hit songwriting-production team, the extraordinary 32-track, 2-CD set — enough songs to fill three Jackson 5 albums — is housed in a special box with deluxe packaging that includes not only the two discs but a vinyl 7-inch single, rare photos, essays and detailed information.
Come And Get It: The Rare Pearls is rich with gems, among them “If The Shoe Don’t Fit,” a Corporation classic that coulda-woulda-shoulda been a smash hit. “Our Love,” led by Jermaine, is destined to become a new wedding favorite. “If You Want Heaven” updates the classic Motown sound, while “Iddinit,” “If I Can’t Nobody Can” and “Would Ya Would Ya Baby” hint at a new funk direction for the brothers. “Love Trip,” a ballad, points in the direction a solo Michael would take in the next phase of his career.
There are also striking covers, done J5-style, including “Mama Told Me Not To Come,” a No. 1 hit for Three Dog Night; Jackie DeShannon’s “Movin’;” the pop/soul perennial “Up On The Roof;” a Stax nugget, “I Got A Sure Thing;” Traffic’s “Feelin’ Alright,” in a studio version that became a staple of the J5 live show; and new versions of Motown chestnuts “You Can’t Hurry Love,” “Keep An Eye,” “I’m Your Sunny One (He’s My Sunny Boy)” (all originally by the Supremes); “Since I Lost My Baby” (Temptations); “Lets Go Back To Day One” (Eddie Kendricks); and “Label Me Love” (Different Shades Of Brown).
Bonus tracks are: producer Deke Richards’ original unedited version of “That’s How Love Is,” a rarity which first appeared on 2009’s I Want You Back!: The Unreleased Masters; Richards’ original extended mix for “If I Have To Move A Mountain,” an LP track issued in 1972; and a super treat for J5 fans, the demo for “Mama’s Pearl,” previously hidden deep in Deke’s personal vault.
Come And Get It: The Rare Pearls is housed in a unique package: a 7-inch square box packed with the discs in their own sleeves; an oversized booklet featuring detailed annotations, rare photos, and essays by Deke Richards and author/professor Mark Anthony Neal; and an actual 45-rpm, 7-inch vinyl single in a slick picture sleeve – “If The Shoe Don’t Fit” b/w “Feelin’ Alright.” PRINCE: Always and Forever
