As soon as I saw the images, I jumped up out my seat hoping he was going to come out. Bummer that he didn't.

yeah , that would've been awesome

We had Paul at the opening and not so long ago at the jubilee concert as well.

Enough Hey Jude for a couple of years i would say.

Stones would have been a big (real) surprise though.

I can understand an homage to someone deceased (Lennon), but an homage to a living entertainer and he DIDN'T show up? That's just bizarre.

Were the Rolling Stones mentioned at all? How about the Beatles?

And why would you hire Beady Eyes to play an Oasis song?

Paul was in the opening and I cant remember all the beatles song that were played, but I remember hearing "Here comes the sun" and "I am the walrus " ... I think The Rolling Stone was mentioned in the opening, but I'm not sure I didnt watch it.

Because "Wonderwall'' is the best song in Beady Eye's catalog? wink

Actually, Liam and the boys have been covering Oasis all summer along.

Couldn't really see the sculpture of John Lennon until it was like almost over...that sucked....Ryan as a commentator was painful...I think Elmo would have put more flare into it with better comments....Loved George.....Really Loved Annie Lennox entry and whole vibe....I love me some Jessie J but I want new material like now.....she has a great body but I'm so sick of the sequined bathing/cat suit look....overkill....where was the freaking Dr. Martins????
SPICE GIRLS WAS THE SHIT ...they all looked great and yeah zooming around on top of the cars was a good visual.....it died to me at the Brazilian section, until PELE...the king....revealed himself....YAY!

If ever there was an opportunity for the Olympic Committee to revive Ben Hur style chariot racing it was last night with the Spice Girls on top of those London cabs...getting the cabbies to drive at great speed then break suddenly to see who stays on top.

The survivors could have slugged it out in a Gladiators ring until there was one Spice standing.

Now That's entertainment!

Fuck them for doing Emeli like that! Annie was great, and so was George. And how does Ginger Spice look hotter and younger now than she did 15 years ago? I remember joking back then that she was Old Spice, and now she looks better than all of them imo.

Overall it was SO all over the place and messy. They may have made classic music, but some of the old rockers really need to hang up their microphones now. Just because they're still alive doesn't mean they have to turn up and perform at absolutely everything. Some of them really can't hack it anymore.

Saying that, I thought The Who were great.

The only singers/songs that REALLY got the crowd going in my eyes were the ones from the 90s. Go figure as the thousands of athletes up front would have grown up with that stuff.

I thought the Who sounded pretty good - not hard considering it's a mime job - but at least Roger got a strong vocal take to mime to. Why does Pete Townshend always wear coats that get in the way of his guitar when doing a telecast?

Most of it was ludicrous. Not sure what was the matter with Ray but that didn't work at all. I've seen him recently and he still sings well, not sure what was the problem.

Just further sanctified my love for her. When you can give a better performance than nearly every other big star from your country/area you know you're a great performer. I was a little shocked she did Little Bird. She should have Sweet Dreams or another song people associate with her. Love Song For A Vampire would have been great with the costumes too.

As for Pet Shop Boys, aside from It's A Sin (which I've never liked) I've never heard any of their songs. After hearing what I now know as West End Girls, I think I might become a huge fan there's so that was definetly a benefit of the show.

I agree. But the oldies didn't exactly do themselves justice.

Half of them were miming, and when they weren't, they didn't sound particularly good.

BTW it would've been awesome if David Bowie had performed

I think it would have been awesome to see Bowie on guitar and Elton on piano performing a medley of Space Oddity, Starman, and Rocket Man

Annie Lennox was quite blatantly needlessly miming so I have little respect there, although I do love Little Bird. The sounds was really off too.

I grew up loving the Pet Shop Boys, but I know little of their post-90s work as I just lost interest as they became a bit pretentious. Still love all the classics though.

Okay, okay, I'm watching now on my DVR.

I ended up fast forwarding it to the George Michael performance which I throughly enjoyed. For as much as the man's been through, he sounded pretty damn good. Was it perfect, no. But he damn sure wasn't terrible and I can accept that. He was looking great and looked like he felt great. thumbs up! I'll forever love you Georgios..muah. kiss2

Y'all were right, that David Bowie picture flashing was a big ass teaser. Made you feel like he was going to appear but when he didn't it was just pout It just went into the fashion model part where they turned the stage into a catwalk. lol London really made sure they covered all bases.

No matter what Annie Lennox does, I still love her. How can you not? Seems like she ushered in Halloween early, I love it.

Russell Brand..... clueless

The Spice Girls weren't actually that bad. Mel B. killed it. And I wasn't even fans of their music back when it came out and I was in middle school. lol

Damn, that was one big ass stage, wasn't it? Made for some neat performances though.

sad I wish Freddie Mercury were here to show'em how it's supposed to be done. Sitting on the piano playing the intro to "We Are The Champions"...oh goodness, that would had been THE performance of the whole show. Somehow, I feel like instead of having Jesse J. sing the song, they should have just had Freddie's image and played an old clip of singing and incorporating that into the live performance with Brian May.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

British choreographer Kim Gavin orchestrated the closing ceremony, which I thought was less visually chaotic than Danny Boyle's opening ceremony.
