Alicia Keys or India Arie I choose Alicia only because India's earth goddess, blacker than thou act grates "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Alicia cause, India, bores me to tears.... "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Neither. | |

They're both equally bland.

India Arie by far
India makes music women and people can identify with (positive uplifting music) Video, Brown Skin, I am not my hair.... She makes pretty good music but the thing some people have with her is getting out of the neo soul box. She could experiment more with other genres. However, she is still a good artist that is underrated regardless who does well with what she does do.
Alicias only descent album is Diary of Alicia Keys. My favorite song by her is Fallen but besides that I dont particularly care for her.

This.
Although I WANT to like India better because her songs are so inspiring... My hair is not my skin, Brown Skin... etc.
but I like the melody/music of Alicia better. "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

Maybe I should reserve my opinion about both. I especially like Alicia because of Diary. Maybe that was her best effort and all other falls short. I also have A Minor...also a good CD.
I don't own any of India... and only know the 3 songs you have mentioned... so Now I'm not sure.

So? | |

India, she's a better singer and has great lyrics and it's from a point of view that is not always heard. I love Alicias first albums but she's constantly making the same song over and over again, her female empowerment thing got old. Also her vocals are not as good as they used to be, she sounds very nasal nowadays. When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace -Jimi Hendrix

I could get with Alicia's earlier music, her first two albums were great (despite her wanna be gangsta persona) but after "Diary", she lost me. Though I do get and respect where India is coming from with her music...she bores me to hell. So I chose neither. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Vocals, musicianship & live performance: India Beauty, songs, & not much else else: Keys

Now I think India has beauty as well
Just don't like the fact that she don't shaved her legs

I used to say India Arie to come off like a music snob, but I do like Alicia better....

India all the way. Alicia bores me to death, and her voice is horrible now.

give me India. i STILL feel she got robbed at the Grammy's for her debut! it has aged well indeed. her voice is way more soulful. in contrast, i don't own anything by Alicia and her track (ironically written by Drake) "Unthinkable" (I'm Ready) is the first track since Fallin' that I've liked by her.
Someone said earlier that India needs to get out of the "neo soul box" Testimony Vol 2: Love and Politics did just that for her. She experimented with world music and had guests like Angelique Kidjo among others. I think the politics of radio doesn't get India the airplay she deserves. I hate to take it beyond the music, but Alicia IS light-skinDED.

India Arie. Just think her music is more soulful and inspiring but i will take nothing away from Alicia Keys watershed album Diary of Alicia Keys. Her other albums imo were nothing special. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

You hit the nail on the head re the light skinned vs dark skinned issue "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

India. I appreciate her risk-taking, and her sound always strikes me as... I dunno... "organic," fresh gennuinely her.
I've long said that Alicia has the potential to blow away all of her generational peers if she'd care to venture into space others don't have the sheer muscial talent to occupy. But she insists on trite R&B productions and the same ol' anthemic whining. Just gets old. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

India has beauty as well and beauty has NOTHING to do with one being better than the other...

I love India and I havent listened to all her albums but the ones I have heard are very good. I made that arguement as to why some people claim THEY dont like her... and likewise with every black woman who goes hollywood the light skin/fair skin will always get heavily marketed than the dark skin unfornately.

HEY YO!
Im not going to question marketing. But just interms of music id choose Alicia....look don't get me wrong India is talanted and I do have her cds but she makes a brand of music that I consider boring ...I would put India in the same category of snoozefests Dave Matthews and Jack Johnson....just boring pointless organic music which I would probably not care much about.....I like some excitement in my music...some funky guitars, some keys, some hooks and sheee....
Even if India was fair skinned she would never have the same appeal to the masses in Australia...on the other hand if Alicia was dark skinned her music would still sell well.
If im driving home from work or uni Id put Alicia on and cruise to fallin or how come u dont call me anymore.
On the other hand if I was the director of Roots Miniseries reborn then Id get India to do the soundtrack lol
Also I like my women shaved lol aint into no Gooney Goo Goos

For me they are on he same level when it comes to beauty.
I prefer India's music to Alicia's. It's more personal and coming from the heart to me. With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

Lol.....of course she does. The question was Alicia vs India.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I like both but I do think Alicia is better she sold me on her unplugged album. That album is a classic.
